who are the jokers Brian Urlacher and David Ortiz?? badminton an unnecessary sport? USA dominated badminton once before but you americans gotten fat, lazy, pathetic and useless in badminton. That's why now you see badminton as unnecessary sport. Watch the trend, badminton is growing in popularity. I can't say that for baseball and football. The latters put me to sleep.

football, baseball and bowling are the main causes of the dumbing of america. You can bank on that.

Badminton, 2nd only to soccer (football) in popularity on the planet, is unnecessary? Most of the rest of the world thinks that our games of baseball & American football are totally superfluous

It appears that Ortiz no longer shares your disdain for badminton. The following is a quote from an MLB article on Ortiz:

... part of the commercial involved playing some badminton. Let's just say that Ortiz isn't going to be trading in his big bat for a racket any time soon.

"Well, you know the thing is, when they hit it to you, it comes like 150 mph, for real," said Ortiz. "So they were telling me, 'OK, here it comes,' and they hit it and I still didn't get it."

Looks like we've come full circle on this...

Guess perhaps u didnt realize that this is page 3 of this thread. This is the very link that started this whole discussion.

    check out this exchange:

    From an Anonymous reply:

"Can you say "naivete"? It appears that this blooger, like many in this country, is truly ignorant of the difference between competitive badminton & the backyard variety."

Response to that reply from original blogger:

    Can you say apathy?

I know full well what competitive badminton looks like. And ping pong. And curling. And cricket. And blah, blah, blah. All popular sports in their respective countries. And like most Americans, I don't care.

That's a win-win. You get to love your sport. I get to not care about it.

    See? Apathy. Not naivete.

Guys i think you are looking at this the wrong way.. I am an american and from my point of view it is great that they are getting badminton out there. One guy mentioned he saw this commercial during an NBA game. That means that loads of people have seen it. I have never seen a badminton commercial before and i think it is great to put this out there because it is funny in a dumb way but it also shows that badminton is growing in the USA and this commercial helps publicize badminton to America. So before you bash the commercial and howard and bob think of the good this commercial can bring. I think this will help bring badminton back into the spotlight a bit in America!!!

having read some of the posts i too think that it is better than it looks. for us, it may look kinda lame, but for many americans who have never seen anything more than those steel rackets with fishing strings and cheapo molded plastic birdies, seeing a real badminton court and real net can be quite an eye-opener.

After watching this, i'm not wasting 1 cent on it.

Duznt really sound like the best of reasons for making the decision not to try the product. Should really make the decision based on the merits of the product or the lack thereof.

i think, yes it is an eye opener for americans because they have never seen badminton played in a proper court and all but the difference is, with the other sports that vitamin water advertised, the americans already know that it is a joke since they are familiar with the other sports. but with badminton, i hope they did not say, "i knew badminton is a lame sport" even when they know the ads are supposed to be funny because they are not familiar with it. and ad can leave a positive or a negative effect. hopefully in this ad's case, it is the positive. :D

lol yeah ive seen that one before i actually got a good laugh out of it. was pretty funny i think, they were afraid to play the net how he just falls over after the net shot lol and then in the end gets the shuttle lodged into his leg. like yeah i know its unreal and all that and people will complain it makes badminton look bad but theres just something about it make me laugh since the commercial is pretty funny the way they did it and all.
