Host China has maximum quota in all five categories with total 20 representatives, their closest rival in region Japan also fields big squad including men's singles ace Kento Momota.

Top-seed Srikanth Kidambi has tricky opening round against the in-form Kenta Nishimoto then an arduous test for the Indian will arrive at quarterfinal, 2016 winner Lee Chong Wei. Joining with them, 7th seed Chou Tien Chen and 4th seed Shi Yuqi, the latter has possible meeting with Kento Momota in last sixteen. On bottom half draw, title-holder Chen Long is slated to face 8th seed Ng Ka Long in last eight while his illustrious senior Lin Dan has challenging task to clear first round, TPE young star Wang Tzu Wei, barring any upsets four-time Asian Champion Lin and second seed Son Wan Ho may meet at quarterfinal.

Reigning world champion Nozomi Okuhara has tough path here, home promising talent Gao Fangjie then Saina Nehwal, Ratchanok Intanon, Tai Tzu Ying in second round, quarter and semifinal respectively. Another Japanese starlet, Akane Yamaguchi has more comfortable drawing, she's expected to face Chen Yufei in last eight and either Pusarla Sindhu or Sung Ji Hyun as possible semifinal opponent.

In the absence of invincible duo Gideon/Sukamuljo, the chance to nail men's doubles crown is wide open, China best bet Li JH/Liu YC will take on qualifier in first round whilst current World Champion Liu C/Zhang N get Japanese darkhorse Hoki/Kobayashi. Three Japanese WD pairs Misaki/Matsumoto, Fukushima/Hirota, Tanaka/Yonemoto will be tournament favourites alongside with world number one Chen QC/Jia YF and Indonesian hotshots Polii/Rahayu. The Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir should pass early rounds and will find either Malaysian Tan KM/Lai PJ or local youngsters He JY/Du Y in quarters, second quadrant will see Tang CM/Tse YS and Zheng SW/Huang YQ as leading contenders to progress. Lower-half draw will see newly-crowned All England champion and the sensational Japanese duo Watanabe/Higashino have Korean rival Seo SJ/Kim HN at first round.

On Day 1, we will find out if Hu Yun can restore some of his fading powers and how fine-tuned are Ahsan and Hendra for The Thomas Cup World Team Championships.

LD had won 4 times and the old man will be generous....I predict LD will lose in first or at most second round. $350K total prize money, so what will a champion gets out of this, not worth a sweat for LD :D

What am I not surprised :) Can't he pay his way to Court Number 1? Like he did when he insisted to wear the red uniform against the red uniformed higher rank Chen Long?
