All England Badminton 2011: China's Lin Dan criticises organisers after light work on court
Lin Dan, who is attempting to become the first men's singles player of the open era to win five All England Open titles, produced moments of inspired brilliance in his opening match but still had time to find fault with the tournament set-up at the National Indoor Arena.

China's Olympic champion looked in fine fettle during his 21-14, 21-17 win over Wong Choon Hann, the former Commonwealth champion from Malaysia. But the former world badminton No 1 was clearly flustered by more mundane matters.

"The lighting is bad and there is no scoreboard this time," Lin claimed, according to a Chinese interpreter.

"I think maybe the All England should do better because this is a Premier event right now."

Inside the hall, which houses five courts, there are miniature scoreboards behind each court but turned towards the spectators, and a master scoreboard at the end of the arena - though some found it unclear to read.

"It's disappointing that someone who won four All-England titles and has been a consistent supporter of the All-England now believes the event doesn't matter so much to him," said Adrian Christy, the chief executive of Badminton England, the host organisation.

Probably the lighting wasn't good. But good point to take note.

Glad that he did not say that after the finals! Otherwise it'd be a very lame excuse for losing.

The condition, whatever it may be is shared by all competitors

Actually BWF wanted all SS and Premier to use similar lighting for the arena...In Istora, jakarta, if we use that kind lights, may be a lot of belongings will be stolen....

No score board? LD doesn't even know 1 to 21 in English, does he?

He needs to learn 22 to 30 as well just in case the game goes into deuce.

I don't think there's much to discuss in this thread. Could I request the mods to close this thread as I don't see it serving any purpose?

AE is over, let's move on.

Why even try to hide the crowd in the dark in these two places. If anything they should practically make the crowd the centerpiece of the broadcast :D

Thanks! I have been working hard on BC recently!! LOL

I think SibugiChai should be a reporter - look at the title of the thread and the body of text - sensationalism at its very best! haha.:D
