    Hey guys,

I have a quick question about recovery footwork in the backcourt specifically after a smash or drop in the deep left corner. When you land (assuming you're a right handed player) should your right foot be pointing in the direction of your next step which would be to your right and slightly forward so your back to the back court center?

I have often found that when I land after hitting a smash my right foot is facing slightly to the left. I then need to point my right foot to the right to move back to the center.

When your right foot points to the left after a smash, I would guess, that you overdo the follow through and rotate your body too much or your starting position is too parallel to the net. Especially in doubles where you are often needed to follow up with an additional smash , you need to traverse the court from left to right (often using a china jump), so your right foot should point more neutral/slightly to the right after a smash.

Best to ask a coach to spot you or to film yourself.
