Eleven countries for Asian U.16 Junior Badminton

    By Bruce Maurice

“This is the first occasion in the 50 year old history of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) that a Continental Championship has been awarded by the Asia Badminton Confederation to Sri Lanka” stated Professor Ranjit De Silva, President of the SLBA at a Press Conference at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, to launch the championship which will be conducted from Monday, August 3 to 9 at S. Thomas’ Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia.

Asia consists of the leading countries in the world of badminton all of which traditionally participate in this event showcasing future champions. It is also a wonderful opportunity for the badminton playing youth of any country to see and learn how the game is played at the highest level.

Countries participating in this event include the power houses of the game – China, Malaysia, and Thailand together with rivals who have produced junior champions such as India, Iran and Hong-Kong.

Other countries taking part will be Philippines, Chinese-Taipei, Bhutan, Iraq and Singapore.

Anura Devapura, General Manager of Mount Lavinia Hotel said that they are proud and honoured to be the official hotel for the event which will indeed bring recognition as a sports tourism hot spot and the country will be marked as a ‘must visit’ destination.

The SLBA’s main objective of the championship is to make it a tourist event and have partnered with the Ministry of Sport and Public Recreation, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau.

(Somehow Indonesia is missing from the list.)

    Threads to merge?

I'm pretty sure this thread is on the same tournament.

Yes you are correct. Somehow I missed the earlier one as it started with the year '2009' first. ;)
