I think any brand new high end feather shuttle will feel hard too. IMO Now i really like to try those quill shuttles. Too bad i haven't seen any for sale here yet.

I've emailed the 2 distributors currently selling these Quill Shuttles.

Hopefully they'll like my business proposal.. or I'll hear more from them.

Those BFers here from Vancouver should be interested to know that I might be getting some samples in ... It'll just take time though!

Hopefully they're as good as they sound thus far :)

    Cooler said (in another thread)
Too bad only medium speed is available, i need slow to extra slow where i live.

My tubes of Quill cames through the post the other day, and printed on the tube it says there are Slow, Medium, and Fast speeds. The centralsports web site only lists Medium probably because they only have stock of medium. If you wanted a different speed you would probably have to phone them to order it.

    Update on durability:
Had a 1 hour singles session last night using Quill shuttles throughout.
Shuttle 1 - base seperated from skirt quite early.
Shuttle 2 - lasted longer, skirt got a bit ripped, and then base seperated from skirt.
Shuttle 3 - still OK after about 15 minutes use.

even with a ripped skirt they still seem to fly well, but I'm disappointed with the seperating bases. I might just have a bad batch. The bases don't appear to be damaged, they just weren't fixed on very well. I'll see if supergluing them back on does any good.

    more news next week.

yeah i'm hoping to give them a try tonight - i shouldn't play at all - i'm already overtired and i have a tournament tomorrow, but i'll just have a gentle wander round the court to try them out...

    :D

the problem is, i'm never allowed to just play easy games - all the players challenge me :(

    Quill shuttles

I bought a dozen Quill shuttles last week and the cork broke of two of them in one evenings play. They don't seem to be glued properly. I tried another couple from another pack today and the same thing happened. Perhaps Ashaway have a problem with their quality control.

    Re: Quill shuttles

Same happened to me today, two of them broke off after only a few rallies - think I'll be trying to get my money back on these... I'll stick with Mavis 370s for now, after all there's not that much difference between the two.

    Hi,

Something you all should know. Contacted ashaway who have been in contact with the R & D's of the Ashaway Quill Shuttles. This was there response...

"We did have a problem with glue contamination on early production runs.
Unfortunately this was intermittent and difficult to pick up. However it has
been sorted but please keep us in touch with any problems and comments on
performance. Please note that the base tape gets tatty too quickly and we
have changed this for the next production run. It’s early days for Quill and
we are developing more advanced versions of Quill and have a continuing
programme of quality improvement on Quill2."

I hope this clears up some questions. Any other questions you may have, please ask.

    Matt

One would think that for such a new product they would hire a few experienced badminton players to test samples from each batch in order to avoid such early bad reputation ;)

Hint, hint for those looking for a job...:D

    Hi,

Quills have not had a bad reputation, in fact the feedback has been very encouraging. No other shuttles play like Quills and there was not a problem with my batch. Simply a fault, and with Quills being so new, there are bound to be one or two faults, i'm sure this happened with the Mavis too. But these will be rectified, as they said, in future batches and i'm sure will take over the badminton world.

    Hi,

Ashaway Quill shuttles were tested by many international players test these shuttles. One of the reason could be the fact that some kids strike the shuttle incorrectly and therefore this occurs. But, this has been noted and will be rectified for the next batch of shuttles.

    Reagards,
    Matt

Maybe the players that have tried them but found them poorly made may want to send them back for replacement shuttles ??

    Update

I had been saving the bases and skirts of my Quill shuttles that had seperated.
The other day I superglued six back together and played with them about 24 hours later.
    No more seperations.

When the skirt does rip, it doesn't affect the flight so much as a Mavis.
I have yet to see a Quill shuttle wobble in the air.
It does fly a bit faster though.

Hey Gryp. I am a fellow Vancouverite as well. Care to share with me or keep me informed about the availability of the Ashaway Quills? I would love to get my hands on some to try them out.

I am a bit confused - is it comparable to a feather shuttle or do people that have tried them think they are only replacing plastic shuttles ?

    Re: Quill Shuttles

I think what Quill shuttles are made to do is to have the same characteristics as a feather shuttle but have the durability of a nylon shuttle.

Well... from what I read in the forums, they are pretty close to the real thing.
