Is this not the same venue where the Thomas Cup was held last year? I might drop in if I could justify a business trip to Jakarta during that period
Denmark not coming Too bad no. For years badminton tournaments in Jakarta will be held at "Istora Senayan" but this time it will take a smaller place the National Tennis Indoor stadium. This won't be that good since so many fans won't be able to come, and perhaps ticket price will be more expensive. Anyway, while we were chatting with Jonas and Thomas at the Singapore Open, they revelead that Danish squad won't come to Jakarta. That's a surprise after a recent statement of the Danish official who assured Indonesia of their attendance. It used to be the Chinese of were reluctant to come for security reasons, and European players were never scared of Jakarta. Even one of the past interviews showed how Danish players love to play in Jakarta and happily touring the city when not playing. Those were the days........ And now China promises coming in full power and Denmark decided to skip.
Is this National Tennis Indoor Stadium in Senayan? Please may I have the address? Gong Ruina here I come...
Hi everyone Tennis Indoor is also in Senayan area. SO it's very close to Istora you can walk from one building to another. PS : I just sent sms to Jonas and he said he and Lars would not play since there were so many tournaments this year so they didn't have money to send all players (??) so only some players will be sent so denmark won't totally skip the tournament. What a pity that one of the top doubles specialists won't play in the tournament :crying:
Wow u were a sportswriter, I'm kinda new here n i juz knew it. Is there any official website for this tournament? I wish to go as I'm very free during this period, but my parents wont let me to go alone
hi simple gal yes i am a sportswriter, but won't be one anymore in the next few days there's no official website yet but i think it'll come up soon. so just hang on there LOL btw can u ask ur friends to go?
Hi! I've no friends who r real badminton fanatics! Tat's y I think of going there alone. My friends are simply not interested. I never been to Indonesia b4, it'll be very difficult for me if i'm alone. I wish to visit Bali also! I've been thinking bout it for quite some time, if I can go during tat time means I can kill two birds with one stone! (I suppose!) Btw it's not too far away, is it?
Hi Eva, Still got no idea if we are going to take on doing the satellite delivery to the international tv stations. The rights fees alone is a bomber. Anycase, my boss and I are heading to Indonesia whether we get the deal or not, to meet up with couple of TV stations. Will be in Jakarta on monday evening and leaving for singapore on thursday night - 29 Nov to 2 Dec. Drop me a mail. It would be swell if I get to cover the Djarum Indonesian Open but then i have to sit outside with the techie guys and miss out on the matches except on the monitor in the OB van.
I always have the same problem as well. But at least in this forum, you can ask for some help to arrange for certain things.
I'm quite sure I'll b going to Bali tis dec. I'm juz wondering if anybody here could provide some information about the ticket price n recommend me some hotels nearby. I need to budget n c if I could drop by Jakarta b4 I go back to M'sia. Is Bali very far away from Jakarta n which transportation do I have to take to get there? I'll be going to Bali with a friend but I think he won't want to go Jakarta with me. Thanks in advance for any information provided!
Welcome to Indo Hi Simple Gal and the rest. Pls dont hesitate if you want to come to JKT. From Bali it is about 1.5hrs flight. Airfare is approx. RPS450.000.- A decent hotel around the stadium will be around RPS400.000 per night. I will be going to watch the semifinal and finals only. If needed I can pick up those from the hotel and to the stadium. Also I can probably arrange pick up from airport as well if you are coming in one group. Let me know! Rgds, fabcargo
hi fabcargo wow thats very nice of you i guess an organizer is really needed for this tournament...are you originally from jakarta? to everyone from this day i am officially transferred to national desk (dealing with political matters) SOBS :crying: but trying hard to persuade my former sports editor to 'borrow' me from the national desk to cover the event to yvonne heya! let me know how things turn up
Hi CHesire Hi Chesire, I am an Indonesian living in Surabaya but I hv a house in JKT too. I travel to JKT once a month for work. I planned to attend the Indo Open. I saw how BFers organized to meet up in SIN during SIN Open, so I thought the BFers in Indo should try to do the same too!. Since I hv a car handy in JKT I thought I offer the courtesy. So let me hv your thoughts OK? Rgds.
hi fabcargo i am originally from surabaya too but right now working for the jakarta post, that's why i am residing in jakarta. that's very nice about arranging things, i guess yeah we need an organizer like in Sin Open. I am sorry that i cant take the responsibility myself since my time is very much consumed by my hectic work so i guess you are a very suitable candidate for a meeting organizer LOL i still dunno whether i will attend indo open or not since now i am not working for sports desk anymore. i hope i can come and watch *fingers crossed*
Hi, Hotel Atlet Century Park is next to the stadium. http://www.atletcentury.com/ If you prefer something more upmarket, the Hilton is within walking distance. Cheers
Kenneth Jonassen is coming to Indonesia Open, just read the news. Don't know who else from Denmark is coming, for sure Peter is not.
3 Danes, China, Korea, Malaysia full power Yes, anyone in Singapore live in areas where SCTV coverage is the best? Here's my last observation from best to not-so-good 1. East coast 2. Bukit batok (gombak) 3. Clementi (NUS) 4. Holland rd According to a news at badminton-indonesia.com, Denmark agreed to send three men's singles including Kenneth, but not Gade. Korea is sending their 6 main players, China and Malaysia in full team.
Just read from www.detik.com that 6 badminton players cancel their participation in indo Open 2004, One of them is Kenneth jonassen, Luckily lin dan and bao are coming
