ANNOUNCEMENT: BC Server upgrade

    for those are are interested. here is what happened.

    the server hosting company that BC uses offered an free upgrade to the server. for the same monthly cost, we get double the ram, and also we get SSD drives. this is significant as BC has always been limited by ram. the upgrade process is supposed to be flawless. but somehow it wasn't. somehow the software didn't like the state of the system after the upgrade. a few things broke, namely the editor and various images in various form.

    going through incident reports the editor issue is supposed to be well known and already existed for a few months but BC never hit it for some reason. the image issue is complete unknown and have no explanation. but they seemed to be orthogonal issues. the editor issues can be fixed with updating the software. but i held off because i want to make sure the image issue is understood and fixed first.

    that compounded with a busy schedule lately made the process longer than i wanted to. i apologize for that.

    eventually i just bite the bullet and upgraded the software without understanding what went on with the images. miraculously the update fixed both.

    however, something else broke. the plugins that we use for like, the smilies and tapatalk broke during the update. those require an updated software for those as well as just updating the smilies files. some other plugin broke too like the spam filter.

    so most things are back into shape now. the good thing is that most software is now up-to-date as a result of all these. :D

    i updated the database server as well. ram doubled and SSD drive serving our data.

    now we have both sites running on SSD drives. should be even faster now.

    there were some noticeable slowdown during the UC/TC match last night. let's see how the server do tonight. ;) :D

    Thanks for the update reports and the effort put in :cool:! Perhaps it will even fix my ever persistent timeout issues that only happen(ed) on this site :eek: ... will keep my eyes peeled.

    Do let me know if you still see them. The site was slow and timing out last night but I fixed that problem. The extra ran should help.

    thanks. Back in 2012 London Olympics, I couldn't read or post anything, especially during the WD embarrassment, with the president of IOC in attendance at the stadium.

    well, that record got broken pretty quickly:

    aside from one unexplained hang from the database server, BC was pretty responsive, there is a slight lag but not too much.

    Still remember that the previous record recorded was during the Thomas cup 2008 semi final clash between Malaysia and China. CMIIW :)
