He court coverage and footwork are good too, comparable to CYF.

I like her shots quality as well as footwork. Pleasing to watch. It feels like watching someone gliding all over the court.

Talking of gliding on the court, nobody does that better than He Bingjiao. It's not evident on tv. One has to watch her live. Having said that, An Seyong is the best WS player right now and I dont see anybody dethroning her till the Olympics. Only inexperience can prevent her from taking Gold at the Olympics.

It’s hard to remain that consistent over a year. She might have peaked too soon. Good form for this years world championships though.

i think asy is nowhere near her peak yet. she will develop more power as time goes by, like 99% of ws players do. throughout history how many ws players have you seen bursting onto the scene by overpowering the field in dominating fashion?

the development path towards a #1 ranking is:
    1. speed & racket skills, followed by
    2. stamina & stroke play, followed by
    3. power & experience.
you can surprise your opponents with #1. after the world is onto you #2 is nec'y. if you don't develop #2 you'll never win a top tier tournament.
there are no shortcuts to #3.

5'7" - not too short to lack power, not too tall to lack speed and mobility.
21 yrs old - has 2 opportunities for og gold & 6 for wc gold within her peak years window.

prediction: female goat by the time her career is finished.

Her improvements over the past 12 months are stunning. Looking at the way she obliterated TTY in their last encouters and how she controlled her other matches effortlessly, I think she has all the features necessary to be the dominating player in WS in the years to come.

Are there any other examples of a women’s singles player with such rapid improvement and consistency? I can only think of Li Xuerui.

The ones that come to my memory would be Han Aiping and Susi Susanti. Han Aiping represented China at 16 and I think Susi was around about the same age when playing for Indonesia. Competition levels wise was different at that time.

With doubles LIn Ying comes to my mind, She represented China at 14 and had a very successful career.

she's probably one of the very few ws in the circuit right now that seems so smooth with the dive defense, akane and chen yufei are great at it too but there's something satisfying about asy's dive defense

That's because she practices her footwork and dives on the court filled with sand. There was a video of her a while back, let me see if I can dig it up.

This is ASY's best and most difficult dive, imho, during her match with TTY at the Sudirman Cup this year:

What a demonstration of highest level badminton this whole week by ASY. To dishearten and destroy a very well playing CM in the final like this is mind-boggling.

Congrats on a well deserved first WC title that makes her the player to be beaten in regards to Paris next year.

    Edit:
Extra credits for a screech-free Carolina Marin. I sooooo hope she'll stick to that change from now on.

    World Champion An Se Young!

It was truly amazing to see her from beating Tai Tzu Ying at Sudirman Cup in her early years to becoming a World Champion.

Heartfelt congratulations to An Se Young, a well-deserved and worthy WS World Champion.

And at 21, she can only get better, that's the scary part. Don't tell me she's going to dominate WS henceforth all the way to Paris OG '24 and longer, and any setbacks along the way would probably be temporary and perhaps one-off before she pulls herself up again to scale new heights, I believe.
