ambidexterity

Discussion in 'General Forum' started by tom jakubowski, Dec 29, 1999.

  1. I would like to hear from anyone who is ambidexterous in badminton (i.e.switches racquet hands regularly and effectively during match play),OR anyone with experience playing against such a player. Being such a player myself, I am willing to share my experiences and thoughts about this topic, as well as thoughts on other unorthodox/unusual playing situations. Please send a traditional message to 940 Cross St SE,Salem,Or 97302.Thank you!

if LD stayed with using his right hand for badminton, i think his shots would be even more deadier:D

This thread is 8.5 years old. Staying with one hand is probably better than switching between hands because the time you take to switch takes time and can slow you down.

I've always thought that ambidexterity would be somewhat advantageous and increase productivity, but I read some research by a German scientist some time ago, that it splits the thinking process and deteriorates the mind. I am unable to locate the article/research paper.

Just choose one hand & use it, it won't make a big difference anyway.

    Wish i was left-handed though. ;)
    makes my shots more deceptive.

i don't believe ambidexterity is particularly beneficial in such a fast sport as badminton.
ronnie o'sullivan uses both hands to great effect in snooker, but he doesn't have to make split second decisions to react to his opponent, so that's fine.
i think it'll only ever be useful for sports/games where you have time to make your next move/shot/attempt.
