I would like to introduce a new concept coined just by myself, which is tournament's title turnover rate, defined as the rate at which the title awarded to a new champion who has never won this title before.

Look at the past winners at all England (still active):

    Zhang/Zhao

One thing out of expectation is that majority of them are Players from China, they occupied all WS and WD events, and two thirds in MS, MD and XD!

Look at all the finalists now in All England 2014, the title turnover rate is just 20% in MD.

Although new blood have been injected every year, the turnover rate at All England has never been very high! Surprising phenomenon, considering a players life is about just 5 to 10 years.

Comparing to the Malaysia open, the very last super series, one could have thought that Malaysia open is more local, thus less turnover rate because of the local domination. That thought is just partially right. Lee CW has hold the title for quite long, but all the other winners are BRAND NEW: Li XR, Goh/Lim, Bao/Tang, Xu/Ma.

The title turnover rate at Malaysia open is 80%!

Most tournaments from my calculation hold the title turnover rate at 40% to 60%.

There are at least 3 classes of tournaments, majors, important ones and not so important ones. All top players go to the majors. Half of the top players go to the important ones. Less than 25% of the top go to the not so important ones. The answer is clearly written on the wall. Just like booking an airline ticket, what is the odd of booking a first class if one always fly economy.
