WD there are no reserve players , cause of the covid-rules also reserve players should be at least on monday in England with a negative covidresult while arriving in England. So normaly only players from the reservelists from England can step in the tournament. Maybe number 33 to maybe 36 from the reservelist come to England a few day ago and they hope that someone from the maindraw will withdraw .
German Badminton Association, only one mixed, one men's doubles and Yvonne Li is playing. So the other six doubles in the main draw have withdrawn. ;-) https://www.badminton.de/news/badminton/yonex-all-england/
Thx for the link! From my experience from the Swiss Open two weeks ago, the continuation of the team manager meeting tomorrow means that the local health authorities - and only they decide! - no decision yet been made which players and coaches are not allowed to start due to the Covid infection. There is also still no game overview for tomorrow.
The rules in the UK currently state that a person must self isolate for 7 days if they are deemed a close contact of someone who has tested positive, regardless if either them or the original person later test negative. I wonder how they are going to try and get round the actual law?
For example, here’s the policy regarding school children. Not sure that “elite” athletes could be considered exempt: https://schoolsweek.co.uk/dfe-illogical-covid-testing-policy-puts-pupils-in-isolation/
Scottish team had to isolate based on one person not in their travelling party but on the plane itself had tested positive. I imagine if that is a close contact, then a national coach would be deemed one too especially as they shared the same flight.
Yes , I agree with you. I know what a "close contact" normaly is. But it is different in many nations. In Saarbrücken in Germany last november only the roommate in the hotel was a "close contact" , not the coach. In Thailand at the Asian Leg there was a coach infected and the player could play. So therefore I think the decision will be tomorrow.
If they are following the advise from public health England, then they wouldn’t be able to play. Unless of course there are exemptions for elite sport. Would seem unwise though given the situation the UK is in.
Yes , I just get the information that according to the rules from public health England all people in a plane have to go in isolation if there is a poitive case. The problem also is that three players and a official from India were tested positive and 16 players/officials from India are still (!!) waiting for their result of the test from monday! And: The whole (!!) team from Malaysia was in the same plane to England. So it's confusion in Birmingham! https://www.firstpost.com/sports/al...U9D3_6ebVB3j6mbS1l6z2ByXlZ1gNMXu37poyPvL9zFCw https://sport.tv2.dk/badminton/2021...an-sende-danmarks-landshold-ud-af-all-england (Danish)
I am pretty certain that they will have to follow the rules on this one. Will be tough but if we are not going to follow the rules, then we might as well not have the rules.
How are there positives from Thailand camp? there isnt much virus in Thailand to begin with. I'm surprised there is no positives from Indonesia.
Massive withdrawals surely, the tournament will kick off on 02.00pm local time and some players will play midnight show.
Being in the shared space in Plane, that is just far too long.. 5 hours.. 10 hours? ( If its from India and Malaysia, that is). any news who the Indonesia team with?
Indonesian government took a slight gamble to order chinese vaccines and started the vaccinations a couple of months ahead of Thailand and Malaysia. That is paying off now. Anyway, travelling increases the risk so not really surprised anyone can have positives test
