You won't be allowed to bring your camera or camcorder into the stadium. They checked your bags before you entered the stadium. You can tried to smuggle them in but you have to bear the risk of getting confiscated(and collect them after competition, that's assuming that they are still there).

If I am not mistaken, the organizer sold the broadcast copyright to a small coorperation called planetbadminton.

    http://www.planetbadminton.tv/

The cameras these days have built-in recorders function and they don't want the videos of the tournament to leak out to the public before they take their own sweet time to publish them online. Also, I believe they wanna monopolize the coverage of the videos/photos for this event. My friends have manage to sneak their cameras in without getting caught, but I won't recommend you doing the same!

You may be right about the deal with planetbadminton (I don't know). But they haven't allowed cameras in for at least 6yrs, not sure if that website was running then.

my friends and i have 'smuggled' cameras in without too much of a fuss.
just small point and shoot ones though, not the heavy duty DSLRs.
they only check bags and rarely check pockets or jackets so we normally just keep them there.

I think of you have a digital camera, you should be ok, as it's easy to put that in your pocket, but you have no chance of you want to sneak in an DSLR:p I wouldn't go to the AE if I couldn't take a digital camera with me, I wouldn't be taking photos during the match, I would only be taking photos of the players as I meet them in the stadium.:)

You can take mobile phones into the stadium can't you ?

You can take mobiles in (but should switch off really).

The stweards are very watchful of people taking photos. If you are pointing anything (even phones) at the play & it looks like you are taking a photo you will be warned. Repeat offenders have their cameras confiscated. Hide you cameras on the way in though as if they find them on the bag search they will put them in storage.

..true w/jamesd20. The All England is the only tourney (SS level), so far i've noticed since joining BC, which doesn't have a lot of baddy action photos shared in BC taken by regular spectators. Not because there aren't contributors but because of the above mentioned rules.
jamesd20, do you recall if they allowed people to bring in cameras prior to 2004/2003??..or it's been the same throughout??..
I'd assume they would continue to apply the same restriction for next yr's AE & WC and then possibly the 2012 OG??...
*btw, mods might want to relocate this thread once the 2011 Tournaments->AE sub-forum is up??..

Unfortunately not, I remember I took a photowith BCL & Zhou Mi on my camera phone then, but not whether the you could have photos...plus I was only young then :)

The WC2003 (also in the same arene was the same (no cameras)

Older BF members might remember if they care to show there age!

The WC2011 will be the test as to whether they will allow in OG2012, since it is in the same arena. There may also be different broadcasting rights for these events.

    - We might have to ask the other James (1984AllEngland)..;)
    - Yes, broadcasting rights. But i have a feeling, Badminton England (and planetbadminton) might want to retain their rights til then..*sigh*..
