Before 2010, we are planning to launch a new tournament - tentatively called the Thirtyfive-Plus Open. This might be in Singapore or in India (if in India, the venue would be Kerala, the state overlooking the Arabian Sea / Indian Ocean).

As the name suggests, it will be open to anyone who's 35 years of age or more... the qualification criteria will also include the player's last available ranking and nationality (as no more than 20% of the entries may be from any one country). A large wildcard section is also planned - so that late bloomers may compete and, perhaps, surprise the world.

The competition will span all the professional categories - MS, MD, WS, WD and XD - with 64 entries in each category, of which 16 entries will be wildcards (based on a draw of lots).

The top 4 seeds in the MS and MD categories and the top 2 seeds in the other categories will have an all-expenses-paid invitation (of course, so will the referees). Everyone else will have to bear their own transportation and accommodation costs (although we're trying to get both these subsidised by the airline and hotel industries). However, every entry (except for the winners, runners-up and the all-expenses-paid top seeds) will be awarded$500 to help defray their appearance costs.

Of course, it will be a prize-money tournament (one manufacturer has already expressed interest). The planned prizes for the winner and runner-up are:
    MS - $20,000, $10,000
    MD - $25,000, $12,500
    WS - $10,000, $5,000
    WD - $15,000, $7,500
    XD - $15,000, $7,500
The total payout is expected to be around $160,000. :)

We would have done this a year ago but for the lack of a proper venue and enough sponsorship to meet invitation and refereeing costs.

Please feel free to share any ideas on how we may improve on our plans.
Advice from those members with experience in tournament-hosting would be of tremendous help. :)
