    New Dates for TOTAL BWF Thomas and Uber Finals 2020
    Wednesday, April 29, 2020
    TEXT BY BWF STAFF

    Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Denmark can confirm the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2020 in Aarhus, Denmark has new dates of 3-11 October 2020.

    Following the Danish Government’s decision on 6 April to extend a ban on “larger gatherings” in Denmark until the end of August, both parties agreed that it was no longer feasible to stage the championships on the rescheduled dates of 15-23 August.

    BWF in consultation and consensus with Badminton Denmark, tournament organisers, Sport Event Denmark and the local Aarhus government concluded that a move to October was the best solution.

    ====================================

    “We listened to the advice of the World Health Organisation (WHO), various health experts, local authorities and the Danish Government and it became clear that hosting a big event like the TOTAL BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals before September would be difficult.

    “We are confident that we can stage a safe and successful championships on the new dates of 3-11 October while all the time monitoring the situation closely should things change again.”

    Badminton Denmark CEO Bo Jensen added: “It is sad for us to change the dates again. However, our immediate concern is with the safety of all involved in this very uncertain time.

    ======================================

    It's not final decision as long as COVID-19 has not fully contained yet, the schedule may change again

    https://extranet.bwfbadminton.com/docs/events/3753/docs/T _ Uber cup draw 3 Aug.pdf

    Uber Cup => KOR should top Group B but the runner-up position is quite tricky between INA and the unheralded MAS meanwhile more predictable outcome in Group A (JPN, TPE), C (THA, DEN) and D (CHN, IND).

    Thomas Cup => Top contender INA is expected to seal group A winner and MAS will secure second best position. CHN, TPE, DEN, IND and JPN are among quarterfinalist candidates. KOR v THA will offer interesting encounter to determine who will advance into knock-out phase.

    Thomas cup, in group D, I guess Japan and Thailand will go though "knock out round" and Korea will not

    Its certainly possible that Thailand will beat Korea and advance. With TFR of 0.83 coming this year and has been languishing for 20 years, there are just not enough talent and kids. Can be said Korea will soon be on demographics bust and its reflected in its sports.( Population will drop from 50 to less than 25 mill in 2100). Earlier i didnt realised.

    Indonesia path is to face CHN in SF. Luckily they avoided Denmark (if everythings to plan). Its hard facing home team esp their singles is stronger than CHN. Not that early anyway, best to face them in Final. Feel Denmark can upset Japan

    Not certain yet, either defending champ or the host since there's fresh draw for knock-out phase.

    I can see INA & MAS having in Group A with England and Netherlands that once colonized INA and MAS lands long time ago......

    How does people (Malaysia/Indonesian) think of this, good,bad or something else (50% good, 50% bad).

    In VN, some people think that is bad time, but others think that although this is bad time but French also did something good for Vietnam. (like building infrastructure and interfering culture). Bánh mì and coffee are examples.

    both worse, the British made Malaya (Malaysia's old name) segregate its race, until today Malaysia face racial disunity...
    although I have no idea what the Dutch did to Indonesia during colonization era, but I only know the Dutch did more terrible administration than the British...

    The British was cleverer than the Dutch at that time, they only occupied Malaysia because they know it takes a lot of resource to occupy a vast area of Indonesia but whenever the Dutch need to bring things from Indonesia back to Europe, they can tax them because they have to pass there.

    Anyway, back to the topic, I think any team can spring surprise now because we do not know how well prepared the players after a lengthy no competition for them. Both stamina and mental preparation are crucial.
    Players list are not out yet.

    Yup, the draw will not change if they are both Group winner and both advance to SF. China will occupy B1 and INA A1 at the top half. The only thing that can change their SF path is either they got knock out in QF or they finish rank 2 in the group.. If everything is smooth.

    Earlier i though China will not get B1 or Denmark (C1) but its not the case. The spots for the top 4 seeds in SF is fixed barring any upsets.

    The QF draw for Runner ups is random though. However there will be no repeat like INA vs HK in 2016. which means they wont face Malaysia/England again in QF.

    Based on rumour, not all the country qualified will take part (due to fear of covid). My guess is China or India and probably Australia and maybe the african countries
