I think instead of debating the intricacies of the more meaningless awards, we should rather go back to discuss the fabulous ones.
PVS looked stunning and a worthy winner, so did SYQ.
A special award (WELL DONE, LADS) should also be given to the parents of these three stunners:

It should have said The Best Player. As everyone including yourself said, how could you compare singles, doubles and mixed doubles? They have the WTF to decide who is the best. One of the nominee Fuku/Hiro weren't even qualified to the WTF, so I guess BWF Player of the Year can't be the Best Player of the Year.

I agree. Though people say HYQ is the "better half", I really think ZSW has displayed impeccable performance, and for 2 years running now! Last year his partner CQC won, this year his partner HYQ won. Really tough for him. And he's won WC and AG this year! I mean what does he even have to do?How can the BWF reasonably only give one half of a pair an award? I mean, there are only two players in pair, and collaboration is an essential component of the game. Has this ever happened before?
And, ... no awards to any singles players.
Considering the nature of the game, I wonder whether it wouldn't be better to do away with gender differentiation altogether, and just go for the Best Singles Player and Best Doubles, instead.
Well, its simply just because he play XD. and the standard of competition in XD is wayyy below MS and MD to begin with. He can sweep all the titles and still not win it.
Even a certain Natsir can compete with half knee. She has no right though.

Hmm I think it's unfair to say that. MD isn't even that competitive. Momota is nigh unbeatable and just caves in to tiredness due to so many tournaments as TTY does. Singles is more demanding than doubles I must say. Gideon/Sukamuljo swept everything except WC, and just because they didn't win WC doesn't make it competitive. ZSW/HYQ play at a level higher than the rest, and it isn't their fault that other pairs can't cope with them because they're just too good. I mean it was enough for HYQ to win and WS and WD are WAY WAY MORE competitive than the men's categories.

Really don't know where the idea comes from that MD is currently competitive. Well, I do know, but it's not a very realistic assessment, is it.
XD and MD look fairly similar to me: Two great pairs that would also be great in other eras, but other than that a couple of old and/or declining former greats, no Koreans at all anymore, Japan still not good enough in either category, India hardly present.

i can instantly recognise all male players in the picture so far.... but for some reason i can only recognise HYQ GLY Misaki AY.. the rest i have no idea who... am i the only one?
Finally, you come at the right time. Since they are your favorites and won the best dress award, I have figured that you will come.
The JPN ladies' costume are nice and elegant. Except AY, they wear dress.
For TTY, I did get to see her picture. She is very girly there.
Hmmm. I don't know. But, I can recognize JPN ladies very easily. I do agree that females are hard to be recognized due to hairstyle. CHN ladies should be recognized easily because most of them are "boyish"
