Wuhan to host 4 more Badminton Asia Championships (2017-03-16)

Wuhan has been chosen to host the Badminton Asia Championships four more times, from 2017 to 2020. The news was released by the Badminton Asia Confederation at a press conference held on March 1. Wuhan was the host for the annual championships in 2015 and 2016, thus making Wuhan the most frequent host in the tournament's history.

The tournament this year will be held at Wuhan Sports Center from April 25 to 30, attracting more than 300 players from more than 20 Asian countries to compete for championship titles in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. According to the Badminton Asia Confederation rules, all the Asian top 10 players of every single event in the world should compete in the games, therefore, badminton fans in Wuhan may get to watch battles restaged between Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei, or Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei.

Li Yongbo, the head coach of the Chinese national badminton team, said the player list for the 2017 championships has not been decided yet. The Chinese team will take part in the Malaysia Open, the Singapore Open, and the China Masters in Changzhou before the tournament in Wuhan, as many young players who were selected for the national team after the Rio Olympic Games need opportunities to accumulate qualification points. However, Li said that the best players will attend the championships.

The ticket price for the qualification matches in the first three successive days varies from RMB 100 to RMB 300. The first match will start at 10:00 A.M. on April 25. The quarter-finals will start at 4:00 P.M. on April 28, with the tickets priced at RMB 100, 200, 300, and 500. The semi-finals will begin on April 29 with the price of tickets set at RMB 200, 300, 500, and 800. Tickets for the finals on April 30 will be sold at RMB 300, 500, 800, and 1000. Tickets can be booked now on any authorized website like Damai.cn. Those who wish to attend can take either Metro Line 3 or Line 6 to the Wuhan Sports Center.

@kelana: How can Li Yongbo hasn't decided the player's list for the BAC 2017 when the draw has been done 2 days ago?;)

Will Lin Dan and LCW spoil us badminton fans with another dream matchup, albeit in the semifinals, so soon after the MAS Open only a few weeks ago ?

If everything goes according to book, Lin Dan vs LCW is slated in the semis and then awaiting the victor is Chen Long in the Final.

Frankly, I'm not too hopeful about it.

CL might not even qualify :(
And frankly atleast I've seen quite a few of those "dream finals". If not CL somebody new and fresh, hands down.

If Chen Long is not in the Final waiting, then the Lin Dan - Lee CW semifinal is considered the high-point of MS, the final becoming an anti-climax to me.

Unluckily, Chen Xiaoxin's first hurdle is already a tricky one, Intanon Ratchanok.

Is there any limit on number of players per nation or ranking qualification?
India's top 2 MS players Srikanth Kidambi and Sai Praneeth are missing!

I would understand if Saina Nehwal was rested! There is enough time before the Sudirman Cup.

CL, if he progresses will meet Chong Wei Feng in the quarters. Hopefully the latter can make a breakthrough. :D

On paper, I consider LCW the front-runner at this tournament.

Wow! So many good players are playing in this tournament.

So, Who will be crowned as Asia's Best Badminton Player ?

Will it be the crowd favourite Lee Chong Wei?

Will it be the Olympic Champion Chen Long?

Could it be Taipei's finest Chou Tien Chen?

Has the time come for the Korean King Son Wan Ho?

Will everyone have to bow down to the next gen Kid Shi Yuqi?

Is the Recent China Masters Emperor Tian Houwei ready with his sword?

Underdogs Ng Ka Long Angus, Tanongsak Saensoomboonsak and Ajay Jayaram ready to shake Everest?
