A less competitive and low-rated Superseries, many elite shuttlers either pulled out or missed this event, overall it's lack of participants. However 2016 KOR Open will be home darling, Lee Yong Dae farewell tournament. The venue is different with previous editions that took place in SK Handball Stadium (Olympic Gymnasium 2) but still offering lucrative prize money, twice higher than last week Japan Open.
In the absence of top stars, the underdogs and underrated players should capitalise this unusual situation and do better here particularly in singles division. Recent JPN Superseries runner-up Jan O Jorgensen should be hot favourite to nail the crown, his strongest hurdle in final route will coming from home player Lee Hyun Il and Son Wan Ho. At lower half draw, Tian Houwei, Srikanth Kidambi and Chou Tien Chen are expected to go further in this tournament based on their seeding position
Defending champion Sung Ji Hyun should have no problem to book quarterfinal spot and is slated to meet Tai Tzu Ying, the winner of this interesting tie may face Chinese Sun Yu. A possible Japan Open quarterfinal rematch has high prospect to happen here, Ratchanok Intanon against the rising star He Bingjiao. Another talented teenager, Akane Yamaguchi has good chance to sail into final four.
