More like tactic to avoid heavyweights LYD/YYS, FHF/ZN who already became group runner up.

Everyone's doing it in a more subtle fashion compared to London.:)

Not saying they're definitely on something, just that the "They've been tested! They must be clean!"-approach is naive and annoying.

Oh, and who ever at the BWF decided that we need to see players like VICENTE Lohaynny, FOO KUNE Kate, BAYRAK Ozge or SAROSI Laura over any additional MD/XD/WD pairs needs to seriously reconsider whether he or she should be active in the sport of badminton in any capacity and ultimately come to the conclusion that they f'd up and retire. Seriously, 16 pairs in the doubles disciplines and yet we have the WR#62 WS who isn't even the highest ranked Turkish player. FML.
To be quite honest, nothing in the past 20 years has had a worse effect on competitive badminton than the idiotic decisions made by the BWF. Changing the Olympic format to groups is the worst thing I personally can remember them actually doing (even the women in skirts rule would've been a close second imop, it's still miles better for female athletes than the Beach Volleyball clothing rules). The only thing able to top that would be another change to the scoring system, that could actually end up destroying badminton for me as well.

That match didn't matter though - based on H2H advantage they would still have topped the group even if they lost 0-21; 0-21

I think they were probably just taking it easy and saving some mental and physical strength for the knockout stages.

Losing/winning the last match doesn't affect the result of this JPN pair. They're still the group leader. Chai/Hong can't be the group leader neither

Did you just have a bad day or are you just incredibly cynical? There will always be controversial individuals in sport. To me, it makes everything more interesting. Its not nice sometimes but in the olympic spirit, every athlete comes and tries to win. Doping is unacceptable but if you are generalizing your thoughts about doping on a whole nationality based on the number of cases then you should also stop watching chinese players play since they've been known to and have been found to match fix all in the name of attaining glory for their motherland.

INA MD didn't play to lose. How could they afford to when they haven t secured their QF spot? In fact , the scheduling favours them. They had an easy match against IND MD whilst JPN MD had to slug it out to beat CHN MD. So how did INA MD lose?
    1) Too much pressure when the INA minister pooh pooh SSP/SS titles and said only OG gold counts.
    2) Lack of confidence from not having won titles for a while.
    3) Wrong preparation, targeting only Fu/Zhang and Lee/Yoo, so not sharp against next level opponents.
    4) JPN MD did their homework comprehensively, with clear strategy and tactics, giving them belief and confidence to win, when they normally lose in G3.
INA MD has big match temperament? Well, this time we know there s no guarantee of big match temperament. Rather, it s how comprehensive the preparation is.

Well, at least they are guaranteed of a SF spot. Who knows they may lose both their QF, if otherwise.

Badminton is more skills and tactics driven than other sports like say cycling or weightlifting, isn t it? If not, you would have youngsters beating the veterans easily? In some sports, they know if they don t take PED, they will have no chance for glory, (and glory may mean they don t have to work for the rest of their lifetime)so the benefits outweigh the risks? Do you see that in badminton, where the benefits outweigh the risks, for sure?

We are beginning to see the interesting outcome of the group format in this OG. In the MD event, the top seeds are struggling or bundled out. That s refreshing.

In the WS and MS events, lesser known players are included as part of the OG spirit, to portray badminton as a global sport? It s not a bad idea, although not entertaining to badminton fans. The group format gives each player the opportunity to play at least two matches, instead of just one.

JUNG Kyung Eun / SHIN Seung Chan lost to Christinna PEDERSEN / Kamilla RYTTER JUHL in straight, 0-2 (16-21, 18-21) on 13 Aug local time, just few hours before the Luo sisters' last match, which was a meaningless one by then.

I do believe the South Korean WD pair just THREW AWAY the group match in Group B by losing in straight since they already secured their berth to the QFs, for whatever reasons (to conserve energy; to ditch the CHN WD (and did some favor to the DEN WD) since a 0-2 defeat by KOR would shun the CHN WD regardless the outcome of the last match while a 1-2 defeat will have quite a different effect).

Yeah, all the blame to the poor Luo sisters for losing in straight in big margins in earlier match vs the KOR WD [and the weird group distributions], caused their fate to be decided by other pairs.

The earlier H2H between the KOR & DEN WD were 1-1:
And who dare to criticize that this act is out of the sportiveness? :) It will be attributed more to the strategy of each party to max the winning chance.

Well, BWF should learn from FIVB by grouping the 16 participants into just TWO groups, the top four of each preliminary group will advance to the QFs, with the definitive crossing of #1 & #4 (A1 vs B4 & A4 vs B1) while matches among #2s and #3s will be redrawn in the QFs. And teams/pairs/singles from the same NOC to be placed in different groups during the preliminary stage. Such grouping will put tighter filtering to ensure just the strongest 8 (teams/pairs/singles) that advance to the QFs and none of the lucky weak to spoil the shows!

I expect the Koreans would have been better off promoting the Chinese into the quarter finals. The Danes have a game which the Koreans seem to struggle against consistently.

He just needs to learn the necessary technical terms, that's what most foreign coaches do in their country of adoption or work, helps to bond coach and players as well.

Sensible and fair. True, not everything reported in the MSM can be trusted. Besides, any charges or accusations should be based on concrete evidence and based on the principle of presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

It just doesn't seem right to make sweeping statements and impose a blanket ban punishing all indiscriminately, both clean and guilty ones. As for badminton, BWF have come out to approve the Russians' participation as they were never tested positive and most of the tests were conducted overseas.

As for the Russians suddenly improving their game lately, how about Intanon Ratchanok of late, what about the Poles, Mateusiak/Zieba, in this Olympics, not to mention others? I've nothing for or against anybody, just want to uphold the spirit and principles of Olympism. I say, WADA should keep improving the testing system and test the athletes more frequently, it's equally important to protect the innocents as it is to catch the cheaters.

Speak for yourself as you and your ilk purposely missed out all the other guilty countries every time. How to have peace of mind ?
