Strong contender Lee YD/Yoo YS had hard test to overcome Chinese Taipei representative Tsai CH/Lee SM, the world number one pair were so emotional to celebrate their triumphant. Another stunning victory saw the Great Britain men's doubles pair Ellis/Langridge disposed more favoured Korean opponent Kim GJ/Kim SR. In singles category, Irish man Scott Evans surprised German fighter Marc Zwiebler in Group K. The youngest badminton player in Rio Olympics, Akane Yamaguchi dropped first game before bounced back to eliminate Czech player Kristina Gavnholt. In Group P Men's Singles department, Guatemala's Kevin Cordon conceded walkover due to injury. Mixed doubles group of death, group B exactly describes the complicated situation and today's match will determine who will advance to next round as all four pairs have pocketed winning score once. The clash of London 2012 silver and bronze medalist, Xu/Ma v Fischer/Pedersen and Polish veteran Mateusiak/Zieba against GBR couple The Adcocks will be the intriguing encounters to watch today. The other outcomes are going to script, Zhang/Zhao, Jordan/Susanto, Ahmad/Natsir, Chan/Goh, Ko SH/Kim HN and Kazuno/Kurihara will face each other in their respective group to decide winner and runner-up position. It's important match for Danish duo Pedersen/Juhl to keep their chance alive, tough task for them as fourth seed Jung KE/Shin SC will be their next opponent. The Koreans picked second victory in group B, downed Luo twin sisters in straight-sets yesterday. Top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi will meet Netherlands hopeful Muskens/Piek to chase first position of group A. Another favourites, Tang/Yu and Maheswari/Polii also prevailed alongside with Chang YN/Lee SH, Vivian Hoo/Woon KW. 2016 All England semifinal rematch will pit Ivanov/Sozonov against Lee/Yoo to determine who will top group A. Endo/Hayakawa defied all odds to beat the favourite Ahsan/Setiawan and out of prediction the Japanese will be out as group D winner. 2012 London silver medalist Boe/Mogensen booked quarterfinal slot and will up against Kim GJ/Kim SR, a crucial tie for two Kims as they succumbed to GBR duo Ellis/Langridge in marathon match yesterday. Fu HF/Zhang N also Goh VS/Tan WK as well have little trouble in group stage and check into last eight.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Boe/Mogensen's spot is not yet guaranteed? If they lose to Kim/Kim in 2, while Ellis/Langridge win in 2, their totals would be: Games: Boe/Mogensen: 4-3, Kim/Kim 5-2, Ellis/Langridge 5-3. That would put Boe/Mogensen in 3rd correct? If Kim/Kim wins in 3, and Ellis/Langridge wins in 2, then we go to the points tiebreaker. That is interesting, and heartbreaking as well.
I'm not sure if this issue has been raised before, but what's the point of holding useless matches between the losers within the group? 8:00 AM MD - Group A LEE Sheng Mu / TSAI Chia Hsin - Matthew CHAU / Sawan SERASINGHE 9:00 AM MD - Group B Michael FUCHS / Johannes SCHOETTLER - Phillip CHEW / Sattawat PONGNAIRAT 10:45 AM WD - Group A Puttita SUPAJIRAKUL / Sapsiree TAERATTANACHAI - Jwala GUTTA / Ashwini PONNAPPA 3:55 PM XD - Group D Jacco ARENDS / Selena PIEK - Phillip CHEW / Jamie SUBANDHI 4:40 PM XD - Group A LEE Chun Hei Reginald / CHAU Hoi Wah - Michael FUCHS / Birgit MICHELS 8:30 PM WD - Group D Gabriela STOEVA / Stefani STOEVA - Johanna GOLISZEWSKI / Carla NELTE 9:05 PM XD - Group C Bodin ISARA / Savitree AMITRAPAI - Robin MIDDLETON / Leanne CHOO 9:05 PM WD - Group C Heather OLVER / Lauren SMITH - POON Lok Yan / TSE Ying Suet Both Philip Chew and Michael Fuchs will have to play two useless matches today, neither of which will give them any extra points. Selena Piek should have rest after her early morning WD and prepare for the quarters, but she is scheduled to play another useless XD and risk an injury. Neither team will give their best in this situation, at worst we will see something like this (because an unjustified walkover may be fined, right?) Any thoughts about this? Thanks!
I think nothing can be done about it. these useless matches have to be played. same as in other sports who uses this system.
I guess the so-called useless matches have to be played in case the highly improbable happened, such as when the qualified player/pair couldn't carry on for whatever reasons due to unforeseen circumstances or personal reasons.
Lee DongKeun - Boonsak Ponsana could also be a good game, and the best Ladies singles is probably Marin - Kjaersfeldt.
the world #1 Misaki/Ayaka are wearing all white today. which used to be the norm but these days not so much. a refreshing look i guess.
LeeSM did a racket change in the middle of the rally. the AUS pair has the skills, but not ability to finish off a rally.
