Don't lose hope ! They beat lee/Yoo convincingly after beaten by hongkong pair (ranked 50) in thomas Cup.
Wow. So a complete reversal of their usual roles? I gotta say, I'm kinda hoping to get to see that match (and the Endo/Hayakawa vs Chai/Hong one)...
Indeed, too many unforced errors and bad services from Hendra but the Japanese pair was also playing very good. They showed a very good defense that couldn't be penetrated by Ahsan's smash and Hendra's deception shots.
I happen to glance at the livescore and to my amazement see Scott Evans, lost G1, 9-21 badly to GER Marc Zwiebler, then recovered to equalize with G2, 21-17, and in the decider raced to the finishing line 21-7 ! This Irish player is 28 years old now. I remember four years ago at London 2012 he was Lin Dan's first round opponent, no pushover.
Marc Zwiebler was tired by the 3rd set. Scott Evans was by far the fitter player. Scott Evans has also been training with Viktor Axelsen and Vittingus prior to the Olympics. I think his training with Axesen and Vittingus paid off. Anyways, this is a big upset. Marc Zweibler is ranked 14th in the world and Scott Evans is ranked 72nd. Losing to a 72nd ranked player that is not a Chinese player (there are many good Chinese players that have low ranking) is simply inexcusable for Marc Zweibler.
It's the first time I have seen a challenge for the service line. It seems BWF has paid for the full package for the Olympics
Talking about the IRS (Hawk-Eye) used at the Rio Olympics, I even noticed a service short being challenged in doubles. That's a new development to me, I'm all for it, except there's still no technological solution for service fault above the waist which continues to be problematic.
Lookin from what happened today, I lose hope on Setiawan/Ahsan. And let say if they win against Chai/Hong, as a runner up, it's possible to meet Lee/Yoo or Fu/Zhang in QF, am I right? #newbie
Ahsan and Setiawan didnt win too clearly against them.....what a joke. Seems like theyre really not in shape at all, then.
Lots of delaying tactics used by Langridge to put off the Kims. Taking his time tying the shoe laces couple of times, mopping the dry floor, serve and getting ready to receive serve, fist pumping at lucky net cord win, etc. Very unsportmanship I'm surprised the umpire let him get on with that attitude
