People don't miss Park Joo Bong, His is the only team still standing in both the Thomas and Uber Cup. What a great job he did, plus, the young emerging players, Akane, Kento are all getting geared up to take top places in near future.
For your information, Singapore is FLAT, NO mountains, a bit of smiles depending on the occasion, certainly not on this TUC of course but happily the sun never fails to rise even in Singapore.
I have heard many good things about the city hopefully shall travel someday... heard its multi cultured with many Asians and Indian there... yes the world divides amongst Asians and Indians Dont know where they suppose India is actually in a different continent or what?....
Justin, in fact there are at least two cases as solid references for your food of thoughts. One is the Korean lessons in KL, 2010 for their UC. The other is the Singaporean lessons in Moscow, also in 2010, for their women's team in WTTC. And we all see what did and does happen thereafter until today... once a nation has all the infrastructure in place, a momentarily blow won't submerge it.
Fact... CHN isnt going to go anywhere... these losses are only to boost them to get over any over confidence they have had from the monotonosity of winning it all 5-0....
Wonderful for Japan for thrashing India...it's just a shame that realistically they don't really have a chance against China tomorrow. Only if women's badminton could get to the stage whereby a whole host of nations have a shot just like how it is on the men's side now.
ha ha ha... of course Indians are part of the Asians, and they're definitely too big to be out of notice and by 2020 will top the world's population. btw coming Monday your new prime minister-elect Narendra Modi will be inaugurated...that's itself a historic event for India.
India showed a great performance today. But I believe partly it was due to the home crowd that they played such a good uber cup. Ofc SN can be a top 3 player, but her results haven´t been steady and really good. PVS also has the possibility to beat anyone and is a very strong WS2. Their WD are surely not belonging to the world´s best. But they rose to the occasion this time I would say. It is nice to see how other countries beside China develop. I think it is very refreshing to have a TC final without China. I´m looking forward to it! Was a bit sad that both SFs ended 3:0. But I liked the results
Thank you for your kind words. Indeed tiny Singapore is multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-cultural, etc, but about 70% are Chinese, 15% Malays, 10% Indians, Eurasians, etc. However all groups including the minority races are treated equally under the Law, which also ensures that racial harmony is maintained. More Caucasians are coming to live and work in Singapore. inter-racial marriages are on the increase. Our huge foreign work force of about 1.5 million (total population only 5.3 million) comes mainly from India, Bangladesh and the neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia. But our Parliament comprises leaders from different Asian ethnic groups. Our first President was a Malay, another was a Eurasian, yet another was an Indian apart from the majority Chinese. Currently our Finance Minister and Second PM, Environment Minister, and Foreign and Law Minister are of Indian descent. It is English that binds all races here as it is the first language taught in schools and universities. But the major mother tongue languages are also taught as second languages and respected. Race, language and religion are closely guarded and considered sensitive issues that are not allowed to be politically exploited.
"Thrashing" is perhaps too strong a word to use as Japan was pushed to the limit before winning 3-2! It is only a matter of time before the others will be able to match the Chinese ladies and the time seems to be approaching closer. At one time, not too long ago, many were fearful that Chinese badminton will dominate the field, but today Japan has proven this to be a myth.
That was one insane day of badminton! So many twists and turns. Uber final is kinda predictable, unless JPN comes up with surprises. Thomas final should be one hell of a contest! Its hard to believe that CHN and INA are not even in the finals! Best luck to JPN and MAS. CHN doesn't need good luck wishes really
You're right, they were thrashed, not trashed. Hah! I think the suggestion that India now belongs on the first tier as far as women's badminton is concerned is a laugh. They are all very mediocre players skills-wise, in what they can actually do with the racquet (Nehwal and Sindhu included), and IMO would not have gotten this far had this event not been staged in India. They do deserve credit for rising to the occasion (except for today, ouch!), I'll give them that.
As expected, IND shot their bullets in WS1 and WS2, although WS2 could have gone JPN's way. JPN bided their time knowing they had the upper hand in the remaining fixtures and it proved true. Good effort by IND to bring excitement to their country and hopefully they can build off it. In the end, the better team, the deeper team, the more experienced team won. Was rather shocked to see the MAS 3-0 INA scoreline. The surprise defeat of Hendra/Ahsan seemed to take the wind out of INA's sails. Credit to TBH/HTH for hanging in there and pulling off the massive upset. But the biggest factor for MAS this TC must surely be CWF. Once again, he proved up to the task and went about delivering the winning point. I did say he had the edge over the erratic Hayom and he proved it. Congrats MAS.
If there's any country who are capable of learning their lesson, it's CHN. I fully expect them to come out guns a blazing in 2 year's time.
While the ROW does have good women players to take on CHN, but for team event like UC, CHN is too well balanced, JAP-CHN 0-3 is my prediction.
The last 2 times Minatsu played Li Xuerui, the matches went the full distance. Sayaka's taken a set off Wang Shixian in both their previous meetings but has never managed to defeat her. However, it's almost likely that the scoreline will be 3-0 in favour of China.
