Of course Singapore imports almost everything from the rest of the world since its early history. We also import leaders mainly from Asia, particularly Southeast Asia. Our forefathers are from overseas, not local born. They come and help us to build the Singapore of today. Like Singapore. Malaysia too has its early imports from overseas. So what's wrong with that? Singapore remains a transcient society even till today. People from overseas come and go and some decide to settle down here for various reasons more particularly for employment and non-discrimination and meritocracy policy. But we also have local borns who emigrate elsewhere. Thankfully we have a greater brain gain with more coming than leaving. The are many new immigrants from ASEAN countries including Malaysia. Our sports school has attracted teenagers from other countries as well, but we have a limit as we need to serve our own people first. Indeed we do have students from even Malaysia. But not too long ago a girl applied and was accepted but her parent later changed her mind due to pressure from local authorities. Whatever, I think our policy to accept foreign citizens will not change drastically unless our economic position deteriorates. Remember Singapore is a transcient society and many young foreigners especially want to come, including those from Malaysia.
