2013 Wang Lao Ji BWF World Championships : Day 6 (10th August 2013) - SEMIFNALS

LD vs LCW as the last match is right.

I wonder why they didn't put LD vs LCW as the last match in the London Olympics.

Thank goodness BWF has improved since 2012.

I admire DPY's never-say-die attitude on court against LCW... DPY has very solid defense n strong mentality but lacks of speed n skills... :)

Because the timetable for the olympics was set months beforehand. The finals are played on different days for different events and who could have predicted LCW vs LD at the Olympics?

Really happy to see there won't be any CHN vs CHN final as it will be boring.. I hope all non-CHN players can show their best performance for tmrw.

CHN has grabbed WD title theoritically, and it is still possible that is the only title for them tmrw. Kudos for Intanon, LCW, Tontowi / Liliyana and Ahsan / Hendra!

No offense for CHN fans, but badminton world needs more variety :)

really! I thought it was supposed to be decided the night before.

BWF can't show favoritism to the mens vs mens matches. Everybody knows viewers and ticket buyers are mostly tuning in to watch LD vs LCW. But if BWF always scheduled the men's singles match last, some of women's rights groups and media will jump on the BWF for showing favoritism. BWF probably rotates the matches so there is no distinguishable pattern.

No, the finals are all played on different sessions. The tickets are sold on a session basis so you know in advance which final you have got the ticket for.

All other BWF events have all the finals on the same day - Olympics are different

DPY lacks speed and skills? Not really.

In London Olympics, LD vs LCW was second last, and FHF/CY vs BoMo was last.

During the LD vs LCW match, crowd went nuts. And then during FHF/CY vs BoMo, the crowd became rather quiet because everyone at that stage mentally and physically exhausted.

DPY lacks speed and skills? Not really.

Interesting fact that except for the MD final in all other finals the No.1 seed are competing. Lets see if they can justify their seeding

Du PY's drawback in this championship is primarily due to his style of overworking others and himself included, playing 3 games for all matches. It is also his speed and dogmatic retrievals that got him through to the semis. Many could see that his mind was growing weary of tactics during the decider just now. As for LCW, his drawback was more off tension and pressure, his enemy being himself. Some players thrive on working others till fatigue (DPY), some players thrive on being cool and steady, the moment their under pressure, it shows because they want to look cool (LCW), some players thrive even better while under pressure (LD).

DPY did his job by giving LCW 3 tough games in late night while LD has an easy morning match against Tien Minh Nguyen. Not sure if the organization scheduled that in purpose. That really give LD a big advantage.

I don't know DPY's H2H records again CL, but I remember I watched them play twice and DPY beat CL both times.

Aiyoh, put MS as last match got complain, don't put as last match also got complain.. put middle lah!:D

And there you have it, before signing off, I would like to end with badminton's cupid heart for ya all.. nightie.heart.jpg

I dont think he mentally gave up, the body has been running on an empty tank for a long time....credit should be given to him for even making it this far with steely fighting spirit and iron like mental strength. When your body keeps telling you to throw in the towel, its really then all mental and mind over body...and thats only for so long before the mind will eventually succumb to the desire of your body to just give it all up and throw the match away.

I don't believe that it's just because his body gave up. I'm sure he's played matches as long and grueling as this one (if not more so). That's supposed to be one of Du's strengths; that he has the stamina to keep on retrieving and retrieving. To me, it's clear that he started giving up midway through the rubber and gave certain points away. Maybe he began thinking, oh well, even if I get through tonight there's no way I'll win tomorrow, so what's the point? He may even have bowed to the overwhelming expectation of everyone who wants to see a Lin v Lee final. Whatever the reason, to me it shows a lack of fighting spirit crucial in an athlete, and that won't serve Du well as he's already lacking in more concrete, practical areas such as having a lethal smash.

Seriously, after watching the LCW - DuPY match, I'm fairly certain Chen Long would have beaten LCW today.

I feel this way, too, which makes me somewhat annoyed at Lin Dan for taking out Chen Long, who I feel is the one best prepared to take on LCW. I know people will say, well, may the best man win who gets to take on LCW, but I'm sure LD knows the huge psychological advantage he has over his teammates and that has nothing to do with skills. Now the onus is on LD to defeat LCW, because if he doesn't I for one will be saying, look, this would have been CL's opportunity to shine and become a WC if not for you (and I strongly believe that CL could beat LCW in the final).

Notes taken from today's WS match

Wasn't that Shon Seung-mo who was sitting on the coach seat? His face looks different every year

Li Xuerui looks pretty in those tight dresses :p
