And there goes TH. Along with Suetsana/Maeda, he is the highest seed (#2) to fall

It's not a surprise at all. It will be a surprise if MJ/XC lost to Ko/Ha.

MJ/XC are several levels above Ko/Ha. In fact, MJ/XC could beat any pair in the world as long as one of the pair is a female.

The surprise is the ease of which, I agree it's not a surprise they won and expectedly. "Several levels above" ...
Ko/Ha can beat any pair in the world as well as long as one of the pair wears a dress ;):D

that's true. 21:5 is a surprise. Actually I pointed it out in the Korea Premier that the same Xu Chen/Ma Jin defeated the #4 seed that time with the similar score. That time, I said it's a surprise for a scratch pair to win so easily against a high seeded pair, someone else told me it's not a surprise as long as they are from China.

    This concludes Round 1.

Lots of good matches today! Even the 1st round are so exciting. Just the 1st round, the traditional badminton power houses, Indonesia, Malaysia, Denmark, and Korea, all of them have just 1 MS left. This is just the 1st round. Even Thailand, Japan have 2 MS still active in the draw, China have 6, no casulties yet.

I see they beat the Polish #3 at the Korean 13 & 19. This Polish pair in turn beat Tao Jiaming & Qing Tian at the HK Open; Tao Jiaming & Qing Tian beat Ko/Ha at the Korean and lost the final 21-17 13-21 21-19 to Zhang Nan & Zhao Yunlei who in turn beat Xu/Ma 14 & 11 in the semis. Almost anyone can lose to one another and beat the pair their vainqueur lost to another tournament and lately a different chinese pair seems to end out on top :D. But the OG qualifying is starting soon so let's wait and see who starts coming through consistently. Thomas Laybourn should be working his way back from injury soon and pair up with Kamilla Juhl again to get back in the mix (literally), maybe Lee Yong Dae and partner. Sudirman Cup might give a preview of what's in store  ...

I think TH is too busy with INA Badminton League, CBL after, Taufik Hidayat cup in between + Milo Junior Cup (junior high school tourney that he sponsored as icon), TH Arena, etc, etc. I consider TH like Oscar De La Hoya, which is still good, but not as good as he were as golden boy in boxing.

Taufik played 2 matches for the Guangzhou team last week. The travelling to China and to UK might be the factors.

Not to mention, he also lost to Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in Surabaya 2 weeks ago.

My gut feeling is that TH will never win the AE MS title as he will be 30 years old next year and that is really unfortunate.

In this respect we have to admit that LD is the best MS badminton player of all time up till now.

From memory, TH has always been unfortunate not to win the All England MS title.

Even in his younger days, his wedding was scheduled to clash with this tournament.
