    In fairness to bananakid, I think you are missing the point. bananakid's intentions are sincere, he spoke the truth and with respect to limsy, limsy's English would do with some improvements. Look closely at what bananakid wrote;

Sometimes the truth can be a bitter pill to swallow but hey, if we can see beyond the bitter truth, we will end up with the positives.

My own English is far from perfect, dude. When I first joined this forum, I was like mi nott spechling mucho ingressish mucho but after 2,000+ posts, my English improved gradually and bananakid is right, after 8,000+ posts, limsy's English is pretty 'weak'.

    Lighten up, dude.

Let not this forum be for English lessons, but be for Badminton info/results/news

Being fluent in a language is certainly a good thing.
But that doesn't mean a lack of fluency is bad :)

Generally, people are most comfortable when using their own language.
I know a bit of French but not enough to post advice in a French forum.
If I did, I'd probably get laughed out or barred for offensive phrasing :D

Similarly, I know neither Mandarin nor Bahasa Malaysia.
Nor do I know Korean or Swahili or Dhivehi or Arabic.
But I have scant reason to be ashamed of this 'shortcoming'.

A few members have posted advice to a few others on improving their English skills. Sans the teasing, it would be sound advice. Yes, sans the teasing ;)

In fact, this forum (and any forum, for that matter) is as good a place as any to practice and improve writing skills. Here, grades don't count. Only the meaning counts.

The idea is to communicate - and communicate well.
If broken phrases clearly convey the point, that's good enough.
But if one could move up to better phrasing, that would lead to better communication all around.

If so, that would be reason for some pride - for you and the forum :)

First of all, my first post in this thread was to challenge Limsy's logic. However, the main point was not taken or maybe it was ignored, yet my point on his poor English was on the other hand became the main focus instead.

So, are you telling him that it's ok to be mediocre, as long as someone is worse than him?

You have got to be kidding. Your English is way better than Limsy to say the least. At least, you use "," and "." instead of "..." 10 times in a single paragraph.

I think this is all part of your plan to ensure Malaysia stays weak while you do your best to make Indonesia stronger, right? Keep the boleh fans satisfied for being mediocre while Indonesia grows stronger and stronger!:D You are definitely a genius!!!:D

    let's not taking sides.
I can take something from bananakid's posts, limsy. Sure you can. Yes, it's 'menusuk kalbu' (@_@) but, so what? You may find something worse. Get ready.
I don't find any problem with improving, the best offence is the best defence. Come back stronger and prove to him later.
    Chaiyo for us!

And yes..i remembered the discussion should be on whether players will improve by time or not? Yes and No. Yes, considering how much the effort one player will put on his career. No if he is unable to keep on improving. it is general, yet i think this is how our life is all about. If you want it, work for it. I symphatized if you say no when it's not yet over. It's an attitude of a loser.

Our limsy is doing OK here

    .
In this Badminton Forum, the ideas and the thoughts to be conveyed are more important than the usage of proper English grammar, spelling, sentence structure, etc...

IMHO, limsy is doing OK here. If we do not understand him, we should ask him to please explain or to clarify. Why criticise his English? :(:(:(

Let's not insist on 'Better English' here. For if we do, many BCers could be too embarrassed to post.

Talking about posters with 'Better English'; we have had many in the past. Check out how eloquently some have written. Their use and command of English to persuade others were excellent. However, their ideas and thoughts seemed to be rejected by many of our BCers. Here is an example: click here

So, may it be repeated: Our limsy is doing OK here.

Are you folks trying to hurt this kid or something? Giving him approval on his TERRIBLE English, instead of pointing out where and how he can improve.

With that sort of boleh attitude, no wonder BAM can keep guys like Hafiz, KBH, and all sort of losers in the national team for so long.

Yeah!!! Keep feeding them the positives without directions, and find out for yourself how successful they can become.

I may sound harsh and all, but at least there are some suggestions in my posts that limsy can learn something from(if he cares enough). What the heck? It doesn't matter to me whether limsy can pass his next English exam or not, and certainly doesn't matter to me if Malaysia badminton team keeps getting their butt kick over and over again.

This is a forum, not an english paper. Feel free to add slang, screw the apostrophes and show your own style in your postings. If you don't like it, pm, or don't comment.
