Thanks. That answered my question. So badminton is more like swimming, you have to win in a trial in order to join the national team, unlike basketball, the committee picks the players.
Answer to Trial Selection from Chris Lawrence Regarding team selection, at the end of the Trials we will end up with four men and four women on the US Team who will represent the USA in the Sudirman Cup in June and in the Pan-American Championships in May. The winners of each event (Mens Singles (one man), Womens Singles (one woman), Mens Doubles (two men), Womens Doubles (two women), and Mixed Doubles (one man and one woman) automatically get to be on the team. If someone wins more than one event then the additional man (men) or woman (women) who gets to be on the team is determined by a set of tiebreakers (based on how they did in specific events in the Trials with preference given to Singles results) that USAB has published on the web-site. If interested in reading more about the team selection process, go to the "news" link on www.usabadminton.org and look for the news item giving information about the Team USA Trials. Chris
^^Hmm, i see..^^ ..thanks again, GGManagement & Mr. Lawrence, for finding out and giving us some clarifications on this..Hmm, so i guess the no. of players needed will be roughly the same as it was in 2005...

Howard Bach on live Radio Sing Tao 96.1 Tommorow Dear Friends at BC, Howard Bach will be live on Sing Tao Radio tommorow, on FM 96.1, February 1st, Thursday, starting 9:20AM, talking about Badminton, his career achievements, and his appearance in the USA Trials at GGBC this weekend. Please listen if you have time! Regards, GG Management
Good to see Sally is posting here May I suggest GG Management to post at the venue the latest draw, game results, and games in progress (on which court), so spectators like us can follow the tournament and the game better. It makes it more exciting. Do it in big print or projection screen would be nice. Look forward to the tournament this weekend.
looks like there will a lot of good matches throughout the weekend. i will be there from Friday onwards. if you are going, come say "hi"! look for a tall, skinny, nerdy looking Chinese guy with a big camera, and wearing a BadmintonCentral.com t-shirt.
DRAWS on GGBC WALL Latest draw and game results, are usually posted on this big green wall we have which you will see as you enter the courts in GGBC. games on which court, which players, will be announced as each game commences. I must compliment our Tournament Director Mr. Chris Lawrence. For every tournament we've had, there have been NO delays. Everything is SPOT on time, much to my detriment last time. I was hoping for some REST between games and just couldn't :crying: ! You have a great time now! I do ENVY you! Sally
If Kwun or someone else can take a picture of the big green wall every day and post it in this forum, that would be great. At least we can see the latest draw and game results from here.
here are the results for the day. not completed. but here should be the rest: WS: B1: Eva Lee B2: Lili Zhou MS: D1: Eric Go D2: Bartolo Chen
Thanks kwun. Both flights look mighty interesting, I wonder where the fellow who did so well at the GGBC/UBC tourney last year (2nd place), Zi Wei Qin, is? Anyone know if Lili Zhou is still coaching Lauren Todt, would be a rematch of teacher-student if they reached the finals again.
Ah, the pictures are here.. ..hehe, thanks for taking and putting them here, kwun ...Btw, the pics look great!! Lots of close up shots; did you get up close to the court or were you using one of those tele-lens to take them??.. A few inquiries: *Re the last pic up there, is that Ben Hussey??..wow, seems like he's a bit "older" than most other players.. * In the draw pic(2nd pic, post #31), unlike the other winners, I noticed Arnold Setiadi has more wins than Howard Shu, but he finished in 2nd place while Howard finished in 1st??.. * who is the young lad in the 1st pic and the young lady in the 5th pic(both in post #32)??.. * where's Raju Rai?? is he participating or is he "officially" not competing for a spot??.. * whoah, i noticed you stayed up quite late last night in posting the pics up..looking fw to more
Got it...thx.. ..gotcha, yah, i noticed that now..either way, i guess doesn't really matter as both Howard and Arnold are in the playoffs..
That is not Ben Hussey at all. Ben Hussey is much younger than that guy. His name is Kamal something. Raju is not participating at this trial this time around. He recently just has a surgery on his knees and is now recuperating. You will not be seeing him anytime soon in the badmnton circuit. I pray for his full and speedy recovery though. One lady is Maggie Ho while the one prior to her is LILY ZHOU. Kwun, where are other results and please keep those pictures coming. Thks.
I was wondering too. And Zi Wei Qin just won the bay area open group A MS a weeks ago. I saw a few names from UBC. And somehow the best player from UBC is missing.
Kwun, thanks for the pictures. They are great! Couldn't be there in person until tomorrow. These pictures are definitely the next best things to follow the tournament. Cheers!
