Even though the relegation tie is much more important, there are a lot of mis-matches in the lineup. THA is considerably superior in XD and WD, and perhaps MS as well. MD and WS (if Wang Chen not playing) more level. THA to win 3-2. Even though I predict a close scoreline, I think the 3 wins will be comfortable ones. But hopefully, they will fight tooth-and-nail and we get to see some good resistance.

For MAS v DEN, I hope they will field their best sides. If they do, it will be very interesting for badminton fans in general. MAS is slightly superior in WD, DEN in XD. The rest is a toss-up. LCW v Gade, WMC v Tine, MAS MD v DEN MD, good enough to make your mouth water. Prediction: DEN 3-2. Hope: MAS 3-2.

Div 1 Promotion Playoff (JPN vs SIN)

Let's talk about the promotion playoff, who will join the elite group next, JPN or SIN?

JPN has had a few heartbreaks the last few Sudirman Cups, in the last one they fell to MAS 1-3 in the playoff.

SIN is up and coming and probably has a more balanced team on paper.

I think Gade will beat LCW if its in 2 sets... if 3 he basically 95% lost

    Possible Lineups:-

    XD:
Masuda/Maeda vs Saputra/Li - Slight edge to SIN pair

    MS:
I think JPN will persist with Sato, even if he's not quite in good form, the promotion is at stake. But Susilo has the edge based on current form. Sato will try to counter with speed.

    WS:
Battle of the 2 gutsy ladies, Hirose and Li Li. The JPN lass has the advantage and must hold fort to give her team a chance (esp if facing 0-2 deficit), Li Li has taken some CHN scalps before and will be no pushover.

    MD:
Ikeda/Sakamoto vs Saputra/Wijaya, JPN pair has the slight edge and fully motivated after beating stubborn Poles. Yet SIN pair has been known to surprise. For SIN to win promotion, they must wrap up the tie by this match.

    WD:
Ogura/Shiota vs Jiang/Li, of course the edge is with the cute girls. Definite JPN point.

So, my prediction, 3-1 for SIN or 3-2 for JPN.

    DEN to win 4-1.
The only point might deliver for MAS is from LCW.

Quite redundant. So, does coming in 5th or 6th does bear any signaficant? It's the formalities, going thru' the rhythm. For me, as long as MAS gets to stay in Div. 1, their purpose here is done. It's time to head home and prepare for the coming events.

Yes I agree it will be very close. Let's see whose got that illusive "X" factor. Unfortunately I won't be able to follow the proceedings.

My friend jokingly said that if the MAS Men's team couldn't beat DEN in TC'06, how could the MAS mixed team beat DEN (supposedly stronger in women and XD departments) in SO'07? But I guess the situation has changed a lot in one year's time. DEN's women have been declining, which will give MAS women better fighting chances, and LCW is far more in form than last year, which leaves KKK/TBH the key (again!) to MAS' win (or loss).

JPN squeezed past NED and POL. On paper, JPN is slightly stronger than SIN. JPN depends on its women power, especially WS. SIN has advantage in MS and XD. It does not matter whether Sato is on-form or not; Ronald would have no problems either way. So, the MD is pivotal and I think JPN will take it.

I am rooting for SIN to gain promotion.
My prediction basing on the above possible lineup:
    XD - SIN
    MS - SIN
    WS - JPN
    MD - SIN
WD - SIN (if SIN loses the MD)

Cause BAM want the other MD to train at home so they will be able to improve their world ranking in coming Super Series....and BAM think it is enough to kept MAS team in Group 1 for this year as they are still at the preparation stage for a stronger Mixed Team for future Sudirman Cup....BAM will spend more efforts in grooming more good WS and WD and of couse XD...Maybe in Sudirman Cup 2009....maybe a better propect for Sudirman Cup mixed team from MAS...will enterthe SF forthe first time.....:rolleyes:;);):D:D

I have a lot of respect for DEN, they were just out of luck in the "group of death".

Nonetheless, I hope for a MAS win, and a SIN win too (sorry, cute girls).

And if MAS loses, I hope LCW still maintains his winning form.
