I have to say the behaviour seemed quite different from the exemplary ones I saw in Singapore and Jakarta.
I thought I was imagining when i heard one booming voice chanting 'LIN DAN! LIN DAN! LIN DAN!' in the early session MS matches when LD was not playing but LCW was. This happened in the first two rounds so the chanting was definitely planned.
Can any CHn fan explain the idea behind chanting a player's name in his absence but in the presence of his greatest opponent during play?
Is there some CHN belief that practising this will help give the CHN player an extra edge?
Is this kind of CHN fan support normal or just special for OG08?

Maybe the fan is cheering because he wants to see his idol, nothing more.

huh? some sort of telepathy thing to induce more "force" into LD?

never heard of anything like that.

but i did hear some really funny chanting during this Olympics. here are a couple of funny ones from the same fan:

It's the same voice leading the CHN cheer.
You mean it's normal in your tournaments for a fan to cheer for his idol on a constant basis for the duration of a match even though his idol's not playing and nowhere in court?

never heard that before. maybe a fan who became too engrossed into the action. happens to everyone every now and then, esp when they are embedded in such electricfying atmosphere of the Olympics.

Was BCL playing at that time?
This LD chant was creepy because it happened during LCW's matches, not when LD was playing in the evening.

It doesn't usually happen in Canadian tournaments no, but at the same time, there aren't really any stars in Canada to make us fans chant his name for no reason lol. I think I heard the chanting part during LCW's game.

I find this attacking logic funny. You find an isolated incedent, then you assume it is the norm in whole area.

Btw, I do not see any problem for fans to chant Lin Dan while Lee is playing. If fans think that will help Lin Dan or any other reason, that is fans' right.

Sounds like the fans were calling for LD's spirit to help defeat LCW.

Or maybe they were already wishing it was the dream-final!

    LOLOLOL

    That one is classic!

But cheering for a player not on court is... strange... I said strange, not bad...

Why would you cheer for someone who isn't even there to listen?

And how could cheering Lin Dan rattle Lee exactly?
