priceless, the way people just can't see good in others (don't get me wrong, that's exactly what I think) but i hope he's gonna pump one or two of his billions into badminton and let the sport rise all over the world
Hmm... Imagine if Bill Gates were to invest in the badminton scene. Come up with his own brand Gate-nex, Bill-nex etc. Imagine, Yonex might go bust. He can have anyone he wants to sponsor... Models ---------- Microsoft power 1000 Microsoft power 2000 Microsoft nano 13000 Imagine the possibilities...
They might have smart chips in the racket in the future. heheheh... However its unlikely that Mr Gates will pump $$$ into badminton. In terms of challenging Yonex for badminton.. there is another brand going to do that. And it will be big.
i guess need to use skateboards protective gears ... later crash here n there and racket hang ? (system hang) wakakakkaka microsoft can buy adidas and nike and ask them to only do badminton rackets/wears/accessories .. yonex will eventually give out free rackets yay! bill gates onli love computer games ... lol
Excuse my skepticism, but I believe he was just marketing, Get photographed at different sports events, make a comment to the press about how you are now a fan, get seen by the chinese public, maybe a bit of feature in newspapers in china, get everyone talking about him in a positive light in internet forums throughout the world...........suckers
Weather its a marketing or not.. Mr Gates was invited to watch China's national game.. which was badminton. He was amaze after watching badminton. And he did write a note to the person who invited him saying that Badminton is Great.
I was hoping that either he or his wife or his kids can start sponsoring the US Open... maybe the 2009 Microsoft US Open GP Gold with $150,000 prize money for a start... or jump to the 2009 Microsoft US Open Super Series for $500,000 of prize money...
Marketing, maybe? But Gates has many choices and limited time. He could have said no to badminton. He may think badminton's great but he also may have thought it may be 'big' on opportunity to be worth exploring. In any case,Gates is an opinion leader and others may be curious to check out more on badminton. Can only add to the sport rather than hurt it?
I don't want to put cold water on anything, and if anyone lives near him, please go round to his house and talk him into a sponsorship. Absolutely I would love him to sponsor a World Premier League Like Crickets IPL, CPL etc... with Sponsors bidding for players etc... but......Bill Gates in China, sees badminton, knows a lot of Chinese will be watche badminton....couldn't he just tell his host he likes badminton instead of writing a note which happened to be leaked to the press? Just seems to co inidental to me.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves...MS sponsored tourneys. Really?? It was just one billionaire celebrity catching a game. Who knows maybe one day Badminton will be like the Lakers on homecourt with all the Hollywood stars at courtside. Ok I'm kidding but like one said it can't hurt the sport and it's more a PR thing for Chinese consumption. If the Olympics were held in USA I doubt he'll be watching baddy .
I agree. Maybe BWF should take maximum advantage of this by "asking" Bill Gates to sponsor a super tournament while badminton is still fresh on his mind.
Not Maybe, they definitely should. It is BWF's job to find sponsors, and if Gates is doing it for marketing then the best marketing would be to sponsor TC/WC/CO or other tournament. Someone should have at least spoke to his people..
wake up guys... do u want him to spend his billions and time on sports (badminton) or savings lives in africa (or around the world)? his old time buddy Paul Alan bought few sports teams in US (basketball, football, etc...) and I hope Gates to focus on savings humans lives (esp the africa children) for badminton, YY is not good enough... we need the next NIKE... I predict Li Ning brand will be the next Yonex... lets wait and see...
But... Imagine if players had a 'Microsoft' sponsorship on their shirt. That would be cool, don't you think so?
Anyone new to badminton would be wondering how it can be so fast and furious. People tend to like sports that are fast and furious - it is human nature.
