Wah, I hope you are mathematically wrong man! Not even ONE SURE GOLD for host China :confused::confused:

At least one for their effort in hosting such a great event. I think the Opening Ceremony this Friday will be the best so far and may not be surpassed for a long, long time! :D

Ladies singles and ladies doubles should be at 99% chances.

Now mas players are favourite to win gold in beijing.

Even the women doubles also mas team are capable to grab that gold medal.

Normal thing for mas badminton team in the big event - favourite to win but produce nothing at the end....

Comparing your above revised predictions to your's on 28 July:

    Well... After studying the released draw carefully, my previous predictions still stand, namely;

MS to MAS (LEE Chong Wei)
MD to KOR (JUNG Jae Sung / LEE Yong Dae)
    WS to DEN (Tine RASMUSSEN)
WD to CHN (YANG Wei / ZHANG Jiewen)
XD to INA (NATSIR Lilyana / WIDIANTO Nova)

...you are increasing China's golden chances to 2 if not 3! :D:D:D

    Olympics: SKorea predict badminton gold

AFP - Thursday, August 7BEIJING, Aug 6, 2008 (AFP) - South Korea have predicted they will snatch at least one Olympic gold medal at the badminton, sending an ominous warning to rivals China ahead of the start of the tournament.

Head coach Kim Jong Soo said the team had been rebuilding since the 2004 Athens Olympics, where they won one gold, two silver and a bronze in badminton.

"Around 2004 we were doing the transition and now it is complete. So it will not influence our performance in this Olympics," Kim said.

"Since we have already solved the transition problem, I think we should get at least one gold medal."

China's formidable shuttlers are gunning for at least three out of the five golds in badminton, as they attempt to dominate the tournament on home soil.

But Korean duo Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae stand a strong chance of derailing the Chinese juggernaut in the men's doubles, an event China has failed to win since the sport was introduced at the 1992 Olympics.

The third seeds have been in top form heading into the tournament starting on Saturday, winning three titles this year, including the prestigious All England championship.

They face Danish pair Lars Passke and Jonas Rasmussen first up, and barring upsets, are expected to take on Indonesian number ones and world champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan in the semi-finals.

China's dangerously inform Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun, seeded second, are placed at the other end of the draw.

Olympics: Traditional powers Denmark plan badminton upset

AFP - Thursday, August 7BEIJING, Aug 7, 2008 (AFP) - Traditional badminton powerhouse Denmark are planning to spring a surprise at the Beijing Olympics on the Asian giants who have taken a vice-like grip on the sport.

Denmark have watched as the Asian superpowers of badminton, China, Indonesia and Malaysia have grown from strength to strength in recent years, just as the popularity of the sport back home has diminished.

"If we look around at major tournaments, China will have two coaches per event at least," Denmark's team leader Finn Traerup-Hansen told AFP.

"In terms of having the energy and resources to do the finer details, we always are under pressure, we need to work day and night.

"It (badminton) used to be the second biggest sport in Denmark, after football, but it's not any more.

"We are losing appropximately 4,000 members (at club level) every year to other sports," he said.

Denmark won a bronze at the Athens Games, a silver in Sydney and gold in men's singles in Atlanta. China, in comparision, clinched three golds in Athens, four gold in Sydney and one in Atlanta.

With the Olympics on home soil this time around and boasting fearsome shuttlers such as world champion Lin Dan on the men's side and world number one Xie Xingfang on the women's, China are again set to dominate.

But Traerup-Hansen said he fancied Denmark's chances of causing an upset, singling out European champion Kenneth Jonassen, seeded five here.

Jonassen, 34, takes on South Korea's champion Lee Hyun Il, who is considered unlucky not to have secured a seeding for Beijing.

"He (Jonassen) will cause an upset in his very first match, if he survives that one, anything is possible," he said.

"Kenneth has had a special look in his eyes (recently) so hopefully that comes out when he plays."

Crowd favourite Peter Gade, a former world number one and seeded eight, is considered an outside chance after enduring a tough 12 months, including contracting a rare form of adult asthma and breaking several ribs.

"Peter we are a little bit unsure of. He has had a lot of injuries this year, had some lung problems, he's done well over the last period, but we don't really know where he stands, so ... let's play the game and see what happens," Traerup-Hansen said.

Perhaps Denmark's best chance of upsetting Asia lies with Tine Rasmussen, the world number four, whose string of recent victories over China's women champion shuttlers has sparked headlines.

The 29-year-old Rasmussen has downed China's third seed Lu Lan and world champion Zhu Lin on the way to winning three titles this year alone -- including the prestigious All England.

"I think it's quite even every time we play, I know I have a chance of winning, but I also know they can beat me," Rasmussen said of China's stars.

"There's a lot of pressure on them on home ground, but also if they get a good start, they can turn it into a positive and reach a higher level by getting the crowd behind them," she said of the Chinese crowds set to pack the Beijing University of Technology gymnasium when competition starts Saturday.

Traerup-Hansen said gold for Denmark would go a long way to boosting renewed popularity in the sport, which was traditionally played in halls during the long Scandinavian winter, and has historically enjoyed a strong club base.

Winning gold would also bring much needed resources, he added.

"We are under pressure from Asia but also from Europe, after the sport was introduced at the 1992 Olympics, there have been a lot of countries investing in badminton."

    .
ana_isa ... Yes but unfortunately in the Mixed Doubles, NR/GE get to play against ZB/GL, while AC/DK get to play against HHB/YY in Round 1.

We have both the GBR XD pairs playing against the CHN pairs in Round 1. :crying::crying::crying:

Almost a certainty that China (YANG Wei / ZHANG Jiewen) will win Gold

    .
:D:D:D Loh ... Not by much.

It's almost a certainty that China (YANG Wei / ZHANG Jiewen) will win Gold in the WD.

There is still a 25% chance that Tine RASMUSSEN could beat XIE Xinfang at the WS Final.

Also, it's a 50-50% chance between NATSIR Lilyana / WIDIANTO Nova and ZHENG Bo / GAO Ling in the XD Final.

Lu Lan's chances are not as good as we think

    .
samuel882 ... Xie Xingfang could probably reach the WS Semi-Finals, and so could Lin Dan reaching the MS Semi-Finals.

And if Lu Lan could get to the WS Semi-Finals as well, LYB would probably ask Lu Lan to give the match to Xie Xingfang. Otherwise, LYB could cause Lin Dan to be upset/depressed... hence affecting Lin Dan's MS Semi-Finals match.

It's all in the idea of "Match Fixing". :(:(:(

If Xie Xingfang was to be eliminated in earlier rounds, then Lu Lan might be able to reach the WS Final. But then, if Zhang Ning was to reach the WS Final as well, LYB would probably ask Lu Lan to give the match to Zhang Ning., since Zhang Ning is retiring in that match.

Conclusion: Lu Lan's chances are not as good as we think. :):):)
