Cooler, I was simply responding to the question posed in the original thread author's post. I interpreted this statement as indicating that corey0528 was surprised Tony G was able to make the finals in MS, beating Mike Beres.

As for my comment on rankings, I was responding to Qidong's statement "Look like Jimmy Pohan is the #1 ranked player in US. Kevin Han is #5, Tony Gunawan is #10. No wonder he can beat Tony." I am merely suggesting that one be cautious when using the rankings to state who should be able to beat who. I used Kevin Han as an example of a player who is most likely to be a better player than his ranking shows. I realize that most people already understand this but I felt the point needed to be made anyway.

I hope this clears it up.

Yes, i was surprised that Tony G. beat Mike Beres. The only reason i was surprised was because i never knew Tony played singles at an international level. I always thought he was a doubles specialist, but you have all convinced me that he is also a top notch singles player.

Yes, actually, he is an assistant coach. :) The two head coaches are Edith Hayman (coached for over 50, or was it 30 years), and Dominic Soong (previous #2 in world for MD, #2 Singles Malaysia I think).

I'll write down whatever I learn for my own reference, so I can post it here as well.

I think the bigger surprise of the Boston Open for me is the fact that Andy Chong/Chibing Wu beating Mike Beres/Kyle Hunter in MD finals. That was probably one of the better matches in this year's Boston Open.
