You should probably practice on smashing while standing because there might be times when you don't have the time to jump up then smash.

yes practice while standing too. pay attention to your body form before you hit it, very important. because it's also important to know how to do the same thing, but different ways. that's how you trick opponents.

just a question. when you say jump, is that jumping from a stand and smashing? or is it a hop when moving backwards and smashing? there is a big difference.

if you're being picky, every single rear court shot should have a jump, as when you rotate your body, your feet lift off the ground to allow for a smoother rotation. it's such a small movement most people disregard it as even a jump. perhaps you're not rotating when smashing whilst on the ground.

or maybe you just have Lin Dan genes......

u shouldnt be jumping everytime when u have a chance for a jump smash, you get tired more faster that way unless ur stamina is like god-like then by all means go ahead. If ur already good enough doing jump smashes, focus on normal smashes

Most smashes are done with the scissors jump...but you don't have to jump very high.

Not only that. Jump smash takes more time for you to recover to balance stance, which means if against a superior defensive player, you are asking for trouble. It requires a lot more recovery time than most other strokes. ;)

That does make sense because if it was under your shoulder you would be aiming for the ground right in front of you. For me my elbow is just above the shoulder.

After the pain disappears wear a compression band on your upper arm to reduce the chance of future injuries. Make sure you also stretch the arm before you play as well.
