    hmm...wow. Interesting.
Anyways, is Newark Memorial High School's gym great? Floors slippery or polished? BIg or small? I would hate to see their gym floor to be slippery and dusty.

    any clue?

    thanks

Newark's gym is enormous. The main gym has two floors, with eight courts on the bottom floor. Bleachers are set up on the second floor to provide a sort of "stadium-view" of all the courts. The floor is polished and in good condition. The ceiling is high enough that you can launch high serves w/o the fear of hitting the ceiling. However, the lights are extremely bright and often blind you during overhead shots. Newark's gym is probably the best in the area -_-.

I'm pretty sure they are not using their small gym. It has eight courts, but is dusty and small.

The smaller gym is actually a lil better because the lights arent blinding and its small so smashes sound better.

Yeah, thats true for the most part. I prefer the main gym because I can high serve a lot easier. I hate the basketball hoops =_=. Also, the second floor is really nice for observing.

Newark's gym sounds like Paly's...real nice. Unfortunately, with all the heat lately, there were few places in the Paly gym (for league finals) that were survivable (which went for about 7 hours yesterday). Good thing there was free ice/ice water and some cooler hallways.

Hm...some notable notes for yesterday's league finals (SCVAL):

Gunn not only has Charlie Yang (who devastated Garrett Marker, who was seeded 3rd), but this other guy (white, curly hair, short, underclassman?) who is quite awesome. Gunn's singles look quite promising.

On a similar note, I heard about some awesome new Monta Vista boys' singles player who is supposed to be the next Emmanuel Pun someday. I didn't see him play though.

Saw Terrence practice w/ Xenas, Terrence has lost a little of his touch? Or was he just taking it easy? Can't tell, but it seems as if Xenas is sharper than Terrence right now.

Mixed doubles is weaker this year, and one of my teammates (we're from Los Gatos) is seeded in that category this year!

Last note: It was absolutely insane in the gym yesterday, it was insanely hot and stuffy. The one line I remember from yesterday was "It's soooo HOT." Also, the new fashion trend was to don ice bags as hats...XD

You were there yesterday? I stopped by until about 4:20. My friend and I found that the hallways without the lights were one of the coolest places, but then we found the bathroom to be even cooler!!

Anyway the Gunn singles players were Charlie and Bren, I believe they're both underclassmen. As for the Monta Vista boys singles, if it is a freshmen you are referring to I believe it might be Gary Wang, who played and won frosh/soph the weekend before. I cant really think of anyone else that you could be talking about

Yup, I was there. Haha, yeah, that in-between hallway without lights was generally the coolest place, but yeah, the bathrooms were cooler. However, who wants to hang out in a bathroom for a few hours? O_O XD

Aha, that guy was called Bren. I didn't know his name before. So, anyways, today the results were as follows (I'm pretty sure these are right, correct me if I'm wrong):
    1) Terrence Pang
    2) Xenas Lam(lost his cool in his second game against Terrence, only scoring 3 points)
    3) Bren (beat the 3rd seed Wilcox guy twice as well as his own teammate Charlie)
    4) Charlie Yang

Garrett Marker (seeded 3rd) lost to Charlie Yang, then to the 4th seed Michael Nguyen. Michael Nguyen (seeded 4th) lost to Bren twice.

For boy's doubles I think Gunn won, with Wilcox second. I don't know much about the other top fours.

@ScubaSteve: No idea if that guy is Gary Wang, but you're probably right. Btw, did you play today?

Saratoga Doubles? You mean Boy's Doubles, with Michael Su and his partner (I forget his name)? I think they made it to the end of consolations, but I'm not sure if they made 3rd or 4th if they did. They first faced a tough Monta Vista team on their way there then another tough match with Homestead.
