    Dear all:

I am completely new to stringing and I have just spent about 5 hours reading all these wonderful conversations, including watching the "grandmaster Dinkalot's" Youtube videos.

I have also read http://www.prospeed.com.my/Step.htm in detail but this pre-stringing seems entirely different from Dinkalot's great photos with the "pink-string with the long loop". I don't understand where Mr Dink started, and how he got the loop like he did........

Pls could someone give me an Idiot's guide to pre-stringing? (I.e. where to start, where to finish). :)

start at 12 o clock, the centre two mains, and go straight down. then take one part and work out to one side , but leave a foot slack at the very start that you dont pull through- thats your "loop" for gripping. Continue and finish with just enough to make a knot- or slightly less as the string will stretch alot, plus you have the string from that loop. then work the other side out and then continue it into the crosses. Work up towards the top as far as you can. easy peasy.

Tip : Make sure you dont overlap the string when your passing it from gromit to gromit i.e dont let it cross any other strings traveling the same gromits- lay them parallell. If you fail to do this, its can cause really really annoying coiling of the string which is a real pain.

    Thanks for that.

    1. How much string to use on each side?
    2. Which side to cross from?

    Thanks.

    1) i assume you are using single pack string, not the one you cut out of big reel. if that is the case 6.5m for the mains should be enough.
    2) depend on your stringing machine, the "long loop" might be different length. however, mojo is right that you need the loop long enough for tensioning head to grab the string.
    3) if you try once you will know there is only 1 side to start from. the whole purpose of preweaving is do it in 1 piece and not cutting string into 2 piece until you finish the mains.

yep :) and as for the short side i just pull a few feet and then adjust if i dont have enough to reach. Generally, only string until the second last main, but it varies depending on the string ( as some will stretch a bit more than others ) . Also the loop will depend on your stringing machine. Mine is a challanger 2 so i dont have a "small loop". I need 2 big loops of about a foot, which is why when i continue on to weave the crosses, i will be short maybe , 4 crosses. If this happens , dont worry, youll have enough.

Just try it a few times and it will all make sense.

video is worth a 1000 words.

I think I still have Master DinkaLot's video doing pre-weaving, somewhere on my HDD (need to check after work). Not sure why the master didn't upload to youtube though.

If you like, I can upload somewhere for you to download, most likely using Mediafire.

But first, have to wait for Master DinkaLot to grant permission. ;)

    video

Hello Australia! (Hope you have better weather than we do in Scotland - hailstorm at the moment).

The video would be superb!:) I looked for it everywhere, but could only find the tensioning ones on You tube (and they were a but diff to watch due to the poor You Tube quality).

If you'd get permission, and wouldn't mind re-posting/sending it..........I would be most grateful.

Dear BadFever, Thank you very very much. I am downloading and will study it carefully.

My whole stringing endeavour is rather funny and disastrous so far; I think I might do a blog on HOW ABSOLUTELY NOT TO STRING A RACQUET, once I manage to string at least one. Since I had absolutely NO instructions on neither machine, nor how to string, I have had to pick it all up from this forum and various other websites. I have broken 5 sets of strings, and one racquet (by not using the machine correctly) so far......... At least I am using very very cheap string and old racquets.........watch this space.

    For Dink

Hi Grandmaster Dink - I think that would be very useful for a whole lot of us :p...........But even without commentary I think it is FAB!

Actually, would you mind re-posting your actual STRINGING VIDEO as well? The You Tube quality leaves a lot to be desired for newbies like me who have to see exactly what you are doing................

    Thanks.

Below is the stringing video by Master DinkAlot. Combining the above pre-stringing, you have a complete video on how to weave and string a badminton racket from start til the end. Enjoy. :)

You are welcome. Hope the video will help you do your first complete stringing job soon.

I am also new to stringing. So far, I only managed to do 3 stringing job. ;)
All I can say is stringing a racket requires a lot of patient and time, at least for beginners like us.

    Happy stringing, La Mimi. :)
