Who is currently using this World Thinnest Laptop? Any reviews? Personally i think it is a good product. Not really a Mac person.. but this might be it.. good for travel as well.
i use a powerbook and will never need another laptop. Doesnt break, doesnt stall, doesnt slow down, and has loads of power and is very user friendly. The macbook air looks cool, but its specs arnt so good, and the question i ask is, do we actually need a laptop that small? the current ones are small enough as it is, and its not a big deal to lug them around. sorry thats not what you asked. I'd like to hear a review too though
A good product? You're kidding, right? Let's think about this... - CD/DVD drive must be external. So much for movies/video games if you forget your little attachment - can't remove the battery or hard drive, so if either goes bad, you're screwed (see below) - cannot replace or add new hardware without sending to the Apple factory as it is too thin, and as everyone who own an iPod knows, that can take months - cannot manually add new hardware - if you have lots of manila envelopes and are dumb enough to use that as a laptop case, you will probably accidently recycle it one day - I also have some serious doubts about its durability - pretty well starts at the bottom of the spec sheet as far as processing power goes - max hard drive space is 80GB (if you want to apy $1800). That sucks!
yeah a lot of sacrifice was made for the sake of design. that sounds like apple right there. since my eye tends to sway towards great design, i immediately loved the look of the macbook air. but, naturally, one is going to spend more time using it than looking at it...
You guys have a good point there. But Mac Air is travel friendly. Another alternative will be the Son Vaio SZ series.
I don't know about travel friendly. The difference between the macbook air and some of the other thin laptops out there is not that great. (differences like 0.2 in of thickness and 1 pound of weight). I take it you are shopping for a laptop?
Yes i'm looking for a new laptop actually. My other laptops turned into desktop.. just left them at home and office.
In my experience, Sony VIAO laptops are nice but overpriced compared to other laptops with respect to their specifications. I don't know if money is a concern for you, though.
If you can get over the difficulty finding software ( its not that bad unless you want very specialist stuff) id say a macbook of some description. If you can play badminton, i imagine you can probably carry its huge weight about and i think the disadvantages listed above are enough to turn most people off the air.
I don't see how it'd be of much use unless you're paying for wireless already. It only has one usb port, which is just really not user-friendly, since you'll need a hub for additional ones, unless you can get everything on a network. The idea of the compactness is good, however, the features are just not that appetizing and in great wanting. They already took away the floppy drive. I don't think that leaving out the cd/dvd drive is a good idea. If they can't fit a tray that will slide out, then they should just have a slot, like the PS3, and other such devices.
i had a check of the airbook specs and they are crap compared to current laptops. The airbook also cost so much more as well but since it is so thin the specs can't be high due to lack of cooling for a thin laptop.
In terms of Looks.. Macair wins. But i agree with all of you regarding the techs and specs of it. It looks so fragile.. i dont know what it is going to hapen when u drop it.
Personally I think the Air is "design over functionality".. It has really poor battery-life which I think is a MAJOR drawback on a laptop made for "the road".. Sonys TZ:s small babies are far better (up to 12h battery!!!) as a travel companion.. Whats the point to have a small, light PC, if you are not mobile?? My 2 cents, Twobeer
http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Style-a/Ownermade/tz92/index.html is much nicer than SZ I think.. /Twobeer
