I can agree with Loppy, however again... Like with our equipment we use to play, it is mostly personal preference. My eyes get irritated by contact lenses, and also I prefer glasses... I have no problems or issues with field of vision. To each his/her own.

my school teacher got blinded in one eye. from a fragment of a shuttle. must just be his luck. i wear normal glasses too btw albeit i hav a separate pair 4 badminton with thinner n lighter frame n i put on a strap as well.works for me
I strongly dissaprove of playing wif contacts on. A while bak i got a shuttlecock smashed into my left eye which left it blinded for 2 months( plus a fear of playing at the front in doubles :crying. Most of it was jst internal bleeding bt the doc sed i was lucky that i wasn't wearing contacts which wud hav left it wif a lot of external damage too. The same probably wif glass lenses( nt plastic) which cud potentially shatter. jst having internal damage was far from fun So my take....as flippin rare as it is to get hit in the eye(....had i bent down jst 2cm less/more..), u dnt wanna b wearing contacts if it does happen hahaha i jst noticed...quite ironic that i was blinded at the time of the last post
thankful i am just so thankful for this info about wearing contact lenses while playing since ive been doing it although doc told me to wear sports goggles but havent bought one, before i used to play without contact lenses but whoaaa i couldnt hit the shuttlecock hahahha coz im blind oh well its really time for me to get those goggles than be sorry sooner or later
do not wear contact while playing badmintob, its so dangerous. wt if the birdie hit ur eye and ur contact in dere?? wear glassses also have advantages, if u got smashed into the eyes u got a protection. just wear those thick frame glasses is good
no, there isn't, but theres tons of choices. squash goggles probably work best. basically any safety glasses or goggles work. i got shot in the eye late last year, which basically took me out of action for about 2 months. i invested in a pair of oakley m-frames, which i use now on and off, depending on whats going on. fortunately i did not have to contend with a prescription. what is possible though, is wearing something like the m-frames, radar, flak-jacket, etc with clear lenses. if you have a prescription set, wear your contacts under the oakley glasses! they're expensive, but they're good. the m-frames, and radars have various lens shapes that fit a large variety of facial features and sizes. there are also a few different clear lenses that you can choose from depending on what kind of hall you play in, how bright your environment is, having different % of light transmission.
Seung Mo SHON is the most famous case yet, he is something like 30% blind in one eye. I have worn contacts for a long time. But last year I was struck in the eye quite hard and has some light flashes, didn't think much of it. I went home and straight to bed. A year on I had some vision problems and went to have a check up. 24 hour later I went to Sydney eye hospital for a detached retina surgery. Hopefully in two more months I can use contacts again. Glasses are fine, but contacts give better peripheral vision and you don't have seating around ears and glasses slipping off problems.
I have two pairs of Oakley Half Jacket for archery and badminton playing. The first pic is a normal retail version and the second one is a SI version. Which's specially made for US troops and police .
I wear a pair of rimless Lindberg Air Titaniums. They weigh just over 8 grams. 4 business cards weigh about this much. I'd say they are the closest thing to not wearing glasses but not having the hassle of contacts. Added advantage of enough eye protection from smashes to the face
I wear racquetball sports specs with pescribed lenses. A couple of my friends had eye injuries from playing badminton. one had a racquet him near the eye area, had internal bleeding. He mostly recovered, little bit blurry another one took a shuttle in the eye, now the pupil is always dilated.
Yeah, you will be surprised that there is an emergency every week at the Vancouver General relating to eye injuries caused by shuttlecocks and racquets.

Ah man, school season is about to start and there is a new rule that we HAVE to wear protective eyewear, it's gonna suck. But anyone have good recommendations?
school season new rules are bleh hey david, i know what u mean, im helping with the coaching of a high school badminton team and now there are goggle rules! its going to be quite amusing as well as anoying! good luck...(tip: if u wear glasses put on the goggles and get a strap so they STAY on ur face!
what kind of protective eye wear is required for high school? Shatter-proof?? for looks get the oakley one. any other suggestions?
