I´m now putting one of my rackets up for auction!! The racket is a: Forza Kevlar 600 CF The racketcover will be signed with most of the danish national players autographs!! The bidding starts at: 75 USD + Transport You can now start bidding here on this thread. The one with the highest bid before 1st of January ´03 will get the racket. Good Luck!! Jonas
HI JR, I am wondering, are you going to gain from the auction personally? or are you donating to a charity , which would also increase your public profile and popularity? Please excuse my rudeness and cheekiness!
Can we safely assume that as of this posting. The current high bid is US$100.00? Only 14 days left (2 weeks). Can we also assume that the ending date/time is 01-Jan-2003 12:00 am GMT? Thanks. Sorry for the questions but wanted to clarify and also keep this thread alive. Oh, do we need any details on the racquet?
Date Yes the auction lasts until New Years Eve 12hrs. The highest bidding is now 100USD+transport It's the racket that I use now and I think it's a very good racket for doubles. 2 weeks left!!! Bid now if you want to get the racket and racketcover with signatures Jonas
Actually I bet many are wondering about this too! Let's put it this way bluntly. JR is an International who gets rackets for free from his sponsers. So if he's profiting from it, then I think it's not right. It's different of course if he is donating the money to a charitable cause. It's also different from us selling rackets/shirts given to us by Internationals. Because they're at least giving it away free to a fan. So whatever the fan does with it is another matter altogether.
In one way, JR is giving us the chance for everybody to have a decent chance to own one of his pieces of equipment. Not many of us have actually met him in person so how would he decide who to give it to? Using an auction is one way. A small competition is another (he's done that already). I know that some Asian players give equipment to their fans - but that is their decision. In the same way, everybody has their own decision to pay or not the racquet. There is also a cultural difference as well. I notice that in some Asian cultures, giving gifts is quite normal and a sign of respect. In european cultures, this may not be so prevalent. e.g. something like some cultures hand shake, some kiss, some bow, some rub noses. JR is also a professional out to make a living. I think selling a racquet for profit is OK. Just as other professionals sell their time, knowledge, skills etc......wether they be teachers, lecturers, accountants, engineers.
Not only that. JR has managed to get autographs from the Danish players included on the cover of the racquet. If you as a fan has to do that, think of the time and effort that you have to expand to get the signatures (if you can even get all the signatures). Remember that the manufacturer gave the racquet for free to JR in exchange for him to promote the racquet (so you can't really say that it is free).
If JR does this to pay the rent, he'd have to sell a lot of racquets! The profit is hardly worth the hassle, especially considering he's gathered autographs from the other players. What he choses to do with the money is not really our business. If you have a problem with it I suggest you simply don't bid on the racquet. Or even better, give a 100 bucks to charity yourself.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Auction won!! Whoa almost a month ago. You mean you don't even know if he's shipped it yet?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Auction won!! Well, I was in NY for the new year, and read the forum a few days after my return, which is when I found out that I won so I sent him an e-mail almost 2 weeks ago. I haven't received a response yet, so Jonas must be busy with his training and has not checked his e-mail recently, I think. In that e-mail I suggested that I pick up the racket at the World Championships in Birmingham, assuming he's playing (as he will most definitely qualify). Hopefully, I'll hear from him soon.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Auction won!! Hi Wira!! I´ll bring the racket with me to the World Championship in may to you!!! Kind Regards Jonas
