(v)irtual (b)ulletin... Out of curiosity, Kwun, why didn't you jump for the more robust and free phpBB. Great open source BB that can rival vB.
yeah. vB can stand for vBulletin. Don, i evaluated phpBB and vB before i switched. they are quite close in feature. however, while i liked the phpBB a lot, esp the "free" part, phpbb is missing the subforum feature that i find to be a must and as you can see, we use it quite often here.
I could've sworn phpBB had that feature, or something similar. There might be a plugin for that if there is none available in the standard version. Can you code is php?
it didn't. i asked, and at that point, phpbb was just about to release and no one wants to add any new features and since it was a new release, there were little plugins. and whlie i can code php, i really don't have so much time unfortunately... vB is expensive, but what the heck. at this point, we will be sticking with vB and the upcoming version looks really nice. hopefully i can obtain it since i have the license.
Kwun, So what, VB is just run by disc (this forum) or do you have quite a large, seperate machine that runs it? How much did it roughly cost to buy this and maintain it? Matt
The whole forum is script based. You need a host that can provide php. I would seriously look into phpBB since it is free and if you're a php coder much more flexible than vB!
