Actually.. ..he had the lead in the 3rd set, even late in the game...But as almost is the case, he just couldn't finished the deal..I could see on tv, players who were warming up on the sidelines were so into his particular match..Seemed like he just lost his concentration in 2 of the late points..And of course, the final point, which was a simple re-drop by Anup which caught Taufik flat footed..
Whatever it is.. ..the luck was on his side or not, the re-drop caught Taufik a bit off guard, almost "locked" his legs..Taufik might've thought the shot would've dropped out..He just lost concentration in 2 or 3 crucial last few points, and all of them were simple drop shots or re-drops by Anup..
Hmm, i was wondering.. ..where the last thread titled "Taufik out!" went?!?!.. Anyways, to share a bit of what i saw, it was a very good match and very heart-pounding. From what i saw, starting in the 2nd game, Taufik seemed to try to speed up the game and at the same time tried to conserve some energy. As i was watching the 2nd set, it was really nerve wrecking, with Taufik trying to battle back after trailing and had to force a deuce. Both players saved some match/game point with Taufik finally clinching the final point to force the rubber set. At the start of the 3rd set, i thought Anup was done and tired. Taufik came out fast and led by quite a few points til late in the 3rd set. But out of nowhere, Anup came storming back, slowly but surely and eventually caught Taufik. In the end, i thought it was Anup's calm play and resilience which held him up and eventually pulled him through. I, personally, did not see Taufik getting tired in the 3rd set, only towards the end of the 3rd set. I, personally, thought the turning point was near the end of the 3rd set, when Taufik was leading but then forced the issue after several good defenses by Anup. Taufik made a baseline smash that went out. After that, he seemed to not be able to focus back, for whatever reasons, and Anup made 2 brilliant plays while keeping his composure. In the end, Anup closed the match with a re-drop that really caught Taufik off guard. Interestingly, after the match, Taufik was able to throw his racket towards the crowd. But i don't know if even that is enough to console the disappointed crowd. Nevertheless, Anup played a conservative yet simple game, with not much smashing. Seemed like he had studied Taufik's game. Add that with his perseverance and resilience and he truly deserved the win-good job!! *There were some funny images showing coach Mulyo sitting down and looking a bit "bored" or "out in space", almost as if he was falling asleep or just woke up.. **Taufik looked quite in shape, actually a bit slimmer than in his previous tourneys. His fitness could be a factor in his defeat, but i didn't really see much of it until near the end of the match.
anup is an underrated player on the circuit. he has played TH earlier before and in that match too was leading TH 8-0 at one point in time. given the way indian shuttlers have been given access to international tourneys by the BAI, the limited exposure AS has got on the circuit this year seems to be playing into his advantage . the win over TH will be an immense booster to his confidence in the forthcoming rounds. he plays the malaysian Hashim next and if he plays a consistent non flambouyant game As can move forward. Also kudos to the indian women shuttler Saina Nehwal who also moved into round 3 with a very impressive win over juliane schenk KUDOS Anup and Saina

I know i have not posted since a year or so and probably wont be posting much after this coz i have n't had much time but i have been following badminton and BC closely like a true badminton fan! I want to congratulate Anup and Saina for their great performances and Anup in particular for his great win over Taufik.Did you guys know that today is India's Independence day[60 years]........so i am quite sure that this was an added motivation factor for Anup.
