There was an interview with Gade on Danish TV the other night.

They also showed him being back in practice with the other Danish top players and he stated that he is definetely ready for competition in the US Open.

Let's hope that he does not suffer any other injuries in the coming time. It would be interesting to see if he still has "it" against the younger stars of today.

my friend and i are driving down on a friday so that we can watch the semi-finals and finals (we live 5 hours away so this is a must). I was just curious if anyone knows of a cheap hotel in the area cause we will need one.

You can check on Hotwire.com . I found a lot of cheap hotels there that are really nice. I am booked from the 17th to the 22nd for $64 a night and that's at the Hilton.:D

I live in Redlands, CA which is about 40 miles from OCBC. I plan to go to see the semis and finals (can't go on weekdays). If you guys are driving down, and looking for a place to stay and do not mind commuting 40 miles, you are welcome to crash at my place. I have a one bedroom apt with bare furnishings (just moved here!).
Either ways I would love to meet up with you guys when you come to OCBC

rumor has it that the Koreans are not participating in the US Open this year. they will stay home to prepare for the Asian Games that is held in October.

that unfortunately will make the tournament much less interesting. :(

For anyone who didn't know, within just a few miles of OCBC are many entertainment attractions: Ananheim Pond (ice hockey, figure skating), Edison Field (home of the Anaheim Angels MLB team), Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Hollywood Wax Museum, and more.

    Limited participation

The US Open is not considered to be a big event (it is only rated 1 or 2 stars) with a purse of US$30K compared to the Singapore Open of US$170K.

Having said that, it is good of Peter Gade to make the trip out here and hopefully Badminton USA will take advantage of his visit to persuade him to do a promotional tour or something.

    Real cheap!

$64/night??? That's real cheap! Is that available for anyone, or
just people with special memberships, etc.? I'm thinking of
going to the US Open, too!

the admission fee is quite pricey for just watching...there's no way they can generate much award money from it, might as well get it all from sponsors and let us in for free ;)

    wira,

There are no special rates or discount rates for those prices. You just need to check out www.hotwire.com and search for the room there. They give really cheap deals over there.

    get in for free?

There's a combined age tournament being held at the same venue during the day. I think the competitors get to see the Open matches afterward also. That might be a solution if you meet the minimum age (don't know what that would be, you'd have to check). Good luck, wish I could go :(
