i'm not really surprised of that. with the withdraw at thailand open, his last "tough" match was in july...

I haven't seen the match, but i think CJ was probably too nervous. It will be interesting to see how many unforced errors he made. Remember the very last point of its semi against LCW in Hong-Kong:
21-20 for him => poor drop shot in the net
22-21 for him => miss the kill at net whereas it was not so difficult.
I'm not saying that LHI had not play well, but i think CJ should have win.
But for sure, next year he will be a very strong pretender to the throne.

PG has not played much internationally this year, especially against top tier players in the new 21-points system.....

No, Peter & Taufik cannot retired yet as there are not any youngsters at the moments who can replace them. Peter needs to win a World Championships & Olympic Game before he retires.

As for the reasons, I said it once and I'll say it again. It seems as if Chen Hong is in form and motivated to win and no one can stop him beside our other talent, Taufik Hidayat (needs to be in form & motivated).

Oh wait, if the conspiracy regarding the Chinese match fixing is true, then I guess Li Yong-bo can stop him as well  .

the match stats for Peter Gade and Chen Hongs games were reading 0 unforced errors for the entire match. what were the actual stats?

Also, as far as match fixing goes, I have a really really hard time believing that the players would even listen to their coach if they said 'dont try to win the world championship final'.

I could see that happening if Lee Hyun-Il manages to beat Bao Chunlai tomorrow. I mean one of the Chinese men will be in the final so Li Yong-bo would not want them to tired each other out and risk the final match. But if Bao Chunlai is through then the best player (of that day) will win.

I think the officials should start the Chen Hong & Lin Dan match before Bao Chunlai & Lee Hyun-Il plays as this would help stop "match-fixing", although it can still happen.

IMHO no chance that this can happen. Too many players can beat him these days. He has to have the ability within himself not only to train to a high level for a long period of time without injury before a tournament, but then deliver against players who are better than him. He couldn't deliver even when he was better than them-what chance does he have now?

It is a shame, but it is true.

Yeah I know I know...but it's just so sad for a great player like himself to not win a big title after all these years. However, I won't give up on him just yet. I mean take a look at Poul-Erik Hoyler (???), he won the Olympic at the age of 31 (???). Look at Jens Eriksen & Martin Lungard-Hansen; they are still hanging in with the youngsters in doubles. The Danes are known to perform regardless of their ages. I wonder how old Peter Rasmussen was when he won the 1997 World Championship.

Even if he cannot win titles anymore, it's still fun to have him around to upset top players.

    My quick take on this..

...ok, before i write, again just want say that i haven't watch their match yet...so any comments will be based on whatever reports/posts that are in here..:p
I had actually picked PG to possibly going all the way to the Final, and possibly winning the title this yr...But, i must admit, this is gotta be one of the surprises so far...Personally, before today's match, i didn't feel CH had a chance against PG-considering he went thru 3 intense sets vs. Taufik; i thought even if CH went all the way against PG, he wouldn't last...But boy, he surely proved me wrong and showed that he is really in-form and ready to compete(like what virusvoodoo mentioned)..;)

I'm very surprise that CH beat TH and PG, seems like he's in good form. Well he should be, he haven't compete in any of the big tournament for awhile. CH and LD match tomorrow should be exciting. Be cool to see LH and CH in the finals. Kind of tired of seeing LD in the finals all the time.

No worries Yan-Yan, I have a feeling CJ will do great things in 2007 and there on. :)

CJ's just being nice, paying respect to his elders, he's giving the "old guys" one more chance at the title. Then for the next 4-5 years, it's all CJ. :p :D

For CJ, all he needs is time and experience.

Just wait. He wont disappoint us-

Actually it is a suprise! Chen Hong has only beat Gade once, since 2001! And Gade usually beat Chen quite big.

I think Chen Hong beat Gade in China Open 2005 also.
