I don't see how they are evenly matched. I've never even heard of the Malaysian pair, but I've heard of the Indonesian pair many times.

Well, I think as junior pairs, both should be equally matched. Khoo/Abdul Latif had some decent recents. They beat their fellow countrymen Hoon Thien How/Tan Boon Heong in the Malaysian Satellite end of last year.

Great news for Vietnam badminton! Honestly, I have never heard of him before the SEA Games. Yet, he performed well in recent months, starting from the Jaipur qualifying campaign by nearly beating Taufik. He continued his good performance at the ABC by beating Shoji Sato. He fully deserves a title in his home satellite tournament after solid wins over Ronald Susilo, Chan Yan Kit, and Jeffer Rosobin. With the Vietnam Open (1*) to be played later this year, I am sure Minh will continue to do well.

Let's see if he participates in next week's Thailand Satellite.

Wow, I didn't know that. You are more well-versed in Malaysian players than me.

Actually, he even had decent results before the SEA Games. I remember him troubling some Chinese players (maybe Chen Hong) last year. He may or may not be a top player (top 10), but at least he sets a good example for his countrymen to follow up.

Nguyen Tien Minh (left) gained victory at the just concluded Robot-HCMC Asian Satellite 2006. Tien Minh outplayed his Indonesian opponent, Jeffer Rosobin winning straight games 21-7, 21-12. This is his second Satellite title since his extraordinary feat winning the 2004 Magnum Malaysia Satellite with a shocking win against Malaysian, Lee Tsuen Seng. But winning it at home ground, in front of local spectators, gave him the highest satisfaction according to Tien Minh. Besides a share in the tournament price money, he also received V$ 5 million from a local pop star & another V$ 15 million from Mr. Le Dang Xu, vice president of Vietnam BF.

The other 4 remaining event titles is shared between Korea & Thailand. Jang Soo Young took the women's singles title where she defeated Salakjit Ponsana of Thailand 21-15, 17-21, 21-19, while her fellow compatriots Kim Min Jung & Oh Seul Ki outplayed Thai pair of Duanganong Aroonkesorn & Kunchala Voravichitchaikul, 23-21, 12-21, 21-9.

Thailand came strong in the men's & mixed doubles events by winning both titles, where Sudket Prapakamol & Phattapol Ngernsrisuk defeated Njoto Albertus Susanto & Wiratama Yohan Hadikusumo (HKG), while Songphon Anukritiyawon & Kunchala Voravichitchaikul won over Malaysian pair of Razif Abdul Latif & Norsyahliza Baharum, respectively.

Nah...it just happened that this pair has left an impression on me. The scoreline fully reflected my earlier comment that these 2 pairs are evenly matched. Yoga/Yonathan won in 3 close sets: 17-21, 21-19, 21-19.

I personally think that apart from Hoon/Tan, Khoo/Abdul Latif could well emerge as yet another one of Team Malaysia's men's doubles pair in the near future.

I think Sony or Simon will not find it easy beating Nguyen Tien Minh. He has the potential to rise to at least the top 25-30.
