i have a yonex super grap underneath my karakal super grip. a bit thicker than what im used to but ... works out fine
Everyone's hand size is different so everyone's preference will be different. Here's what I use: G4 + original grip + 1 overgrip* *How you put on the overgrip is important. If the overgrip is thicker, I rib it, meaning the overlap is very minor (1/8"). If the overgrip is thinner, then I will overlap half of the grip's total width. The grips I've tested so far: HL Tacky (very hard to find): thinner, very good grip and feel, average lifespan, average sweat absorption. Recommended: $4-$5/2-pack Yonex SuperGrap: thinner, good feel but lifespan is very short, doesn't absorb sweat too well. Not recommended. Forten: thinner, not as tacky, but absorbs sweat well, more of a tennis feel, like Tourna Grip. Short lifespan. Not recommended. Prince MicroTac: a bit thicker, excellent grip and excellent durability. Average sweat absorption. Currently, this is my go to grip. $1-$1.50/grip. Best deal, highly recommended! I skip on towel grips, I prefer the feel of tacky grips.
For me, I would use G5 / 4.5 the put a single Babolat Syntec grip on top (overlap double layer) of it.
got to try babolat pro team, it feels great i tried babolat's woover, although it say its good on absorbing sweat, but i don't feel it... having a pro team OG now, i will update on how it feels later...
G5 + 1 layer supergrap (no overlap) + 1 layer supergrap (half overlap) G4 + 1 layer supergrap (half overlap)
I like a thick grip, on a UK release nano 8000 from the bare wood handle: 1 layer of electrical tape 1 layer of Karakal Kusy grip 1 layer of electrical tape 1 layer of Karakal Kushy grip 1 layer of electrical tape 1 layer of towel grip Suits my game and playing style perfectly once the towel has bedded in after a couple of games.
doesn't that make the grip totally round?why don't you just order a bigger G-size? I find rackets with roudn grips hard to play with...and I cramp up on my grip when it's too cushiony...just a G4, towel-grip on wood for me, with a layer of tape in between (doesn't absorb, smooth surface..permanent food-wrap you could say)
Dill's UK racquets are G3, the largest available in the Yonex line up. Yonex used to make G2 grips for UK racquets. I wonder why they have stopped doing that.
good lord that's a BIG grip! Dill, how do you stop it getting round? or do you just don't care?or gotten used to it? why is it thát big?
I have a loose grip, basic grips just slide out of my hand and i have to grip very tightly to hold ont them and my hand cramps, i think a thicker grip gives me more control and better feel, and yes i have gotten used to this over time but it always feels best. I have tried using thiner grip/combos but my shots work fine with this combination and many would just say my shots are spot on for about 85-90% of the time. And yes it is round but i know exactly where my grip should be at any given time and dont need to rely on finding the edges as it is now instinctive where i need to vary my grip to for each shot. And yes everyone who tries my racket just hands it straight back to me upon grabing the grip because it is far too big for them. It is now lovingly refered to as the tree trunk by many of the guys i play with!
