it annoys me in singles when people use continuous deceptive clears, they go to smashe but do a fast and low power clear. i would rather have to return deceptive dropshots i guess i just find it easier moving forwards rather than back
there's a lot of position play and tactical manouvering before they "can" smash....pro's don't smahs eveyr high shot...but are more playing *to get a short lift*
are you a "short person" or unable to clear deep when under pressure? if so, this is just the tactical part of the opponent to get a short lift...try to work a way around it
then it's very understandable for "taller" opponents (or short ones who know their own 'weakness') to try and press you to the back...you'll work your way around it..by either getting stronger, or taller or tactically better than the brainless idiots who cannot think fo anythign better (yes I have a childhood trauma because of those people )
i wouldn't exactly call myself a weak player in terms of power because i can give the adults a run at that training session and i don't find it that hard to return deceptive clears, it's just i would prefer another shot because i'm lazy sometimes i guess
the smash i do most often the the crappy badly hit with extra unwanted slice one that's when i'm aiming for a nice straight smash, preferably onto one of the three longitudinal lines
I just played like 3 hours of badminton... I learned a very good thing during my deadly matches... Smash when the people serve, just bend down and wack the ball, my percentage of taking an advantage is 80-85 % ...
another problem is with faster opponents... if they're standing a touch closer to the net than you expected, they can easily crouch and smash your smash...
My favourite smash is the cross court forehand back corner angled smash in singles. Quite a long name... Edit: it is also the smash i do the most often
i try to aim for there elbow its very hard to return or just before the net or just set my self up for a close net smash
i usually smash straight to the body oh i mean close to the body but if he/she is a good defender then i would smash to the backhand side. usually i smash 2x at the forehand side if its not succesful then the third one goes to the backhand side. the other tactic that i have for smashes is i smash at 1 player constantly and when i see at the corner of my eye that the other player kinda puts down his/her defense thats when i take it straight to him/her. if im using a head heavy racket the power comes from the whole power/swing speed of my arm but if im using a head light or even balance racket i use my forearm and wrist power.
I go opposite the defender's preferred defensive stance (i.e. if he likes to defend using his backhand, I go forehand). If the defender is particularly good and he can get anything an arm's length away then I have no choice but to go for the body and just apologize everytime. I also like the overhead smash crosscourt or to the middle.
