Yonex has a nice colour poster showing lovely pictures of Olympic medal winners (badminton) and listing types of racquet, string, and shoes of each winner, from gold to bronze.
even with all the promotion, 75ti, 88ti and 65P havent caught on. 68ti got small usage by pros although quite popular at retail lvl because it was promoted most heavily imo
Question: I notice that a lot of people used BG80 but not a single person used BG85. Is this because the string was not offered for use at the stringing stations? I dont think BG85 is THAT unpopular?
the only thing i can surmise from the data is that the players find bg85 is just too thin and don't last long enough. just as we don't see any users of bg66 either on the table.
do u noe during the singapore open, sunrise ask malaysian unexperience stringer to string for the pro...in the end the broke up to 30+/- racket...heard frm a local stringer...
That may be true (im assuming BG80 is significantly thicker), yet, it begs the question, do we assume pros can use any string they want for free? If so, wouldnt everyone (or at least a lot of people) then be using the Cybernatural strings?
I don't know, but I kind of doubt it. (At least I think labor is probably not free if Yonex provides all the strings)
is that true.it cant be.singapore will want full of praises for the tournament and want everything to go correctly.till its top class.if this was the case then the players will have kicked up a fuss.
i think the sponsorship is similar to most other sports. in motorcycle roadracing, theres several forms of sponsorship. theres factory-backing, which i feel would be similar to the top pro's backed by yonex. the team is supplied the parts, supplied money, and they're given techies to work with it. what happens after that is up to the team. theres the semi-factory type, where parts is supplied after the factory teams mess with them for a while. whatever the team does with it is of no concern to the factory (eg, honda) so i think some players are given the string and equipment, and expenses related to such items, such as stringing labor is reimbursed by yonex. some, may only be given the gear, but they have to pay for labor on their own... bg80 isn't significantly thicker either. its only 0.01mm... but i guess that is what makes all the difference, since the 0.03mm difference between bg85 and bg65 is having the string break in weeks to maybe two months, to never breaking at all.
sorry, i should of been more detailed with my first post... bg80 as compared to bg85 bg85 as compared to bg65
yeah, but the men's singles gold & bronze medalists use the BG-66 apparently, plus a few others that i forgotten. just that their rackets were not stringed by this particular group of stringers. the info from yonex's poster that shows all medalists except mixed double silver were using yonex rackets, strings and shoes.
and why would that so? if they have never used the strings, even if offered for free, none of them would accept it since they are unfamiliar with it.
it takes time for pros to adjust from strings to strings, however, as some of them are using Ti strings now (which are considered as new strings), I think people will start to use those advanced strings soon. (However, supply is an issue. Pros would only use strings available in his/her country..... some newer strings has limited supply)
That more or less begs the question of whether pros are given access to any string they want, or, if this is not the case, to what extent are they given such support. Hmm, this may be something to ask JR.
