i was juz wondering, do u like make ur opponent underestimate you or u make them think they cant beat you no matter what they do? i don mean like using words , more like ur actions. for example like eventhough u're exhausted but u act as if u're juz warming up.
Normally during the game, I think what I will/should eat after playing And most of time, it ended up with sushi
tats all, looking forward to ur next meal, come on u should be concentrating on the game.not ur food. lol
If the loser of the game pays for the meal, yes...you can focus on your game while thinking about the food.
Personally, I don't play mind games with my opponents. Playing badminton is hard enough for me. I do notice one thing, though, I tend to be a lot more expressive when playing doubles than singles. But, that's just a way to keep the intensity level especially if I notice that my partner can't get or isn't into it.
All our opponents know my double's partner and me so there's no use in trying to fake them out. OK, just kidding. One thing we try to do is intimidate our opponents right off the bat. When my partner is in the front and I'm in back, I try to get in a good 3/4 power, steep angle, short smash so the defender does a weak, short return. My partner will then just crush the shuttle, hit it straight down and render the shuttle oval and useless; a point blank smash if you will. This is very intimidating. Most of the time, if this set-up happens a second or third time, etc... the opponents usually just run off the court.
Someone I know who used to play in a team league in England, once showed up at an opponents' club whom they had never played against before. Upon hitting the courts, the visiting team (that this person was on) warmed up entirely using their wrong hands and totally pretended that the entire team was of MUCH lower skill level. They did it so convincingly that the host team laughed under their breaths, whispered mocking comments to eachother, and totally entered the matches with absolute over-confidence and thus with their guard totally down. Needless to say, the host team got completely slaughtered as their games were almost over before they realized the visitors were fairly skilled. And the Grammy for best performance goes to.... !!!
Well, for me, letting them think they can beat you or that you're inferior gives them a huge esteem and mental boost. I'd say its more of a disadvantage to do that. Rather, right off the bat, I like to hit em fast, hit em hard. That way, their mental game goes down and when it does, I've won the match.
Tactics like deception may work out for the first game that you play, but I would have expected the opponents to observe and realise your actual capabilities after that. Actually, it shouldn't take more than about 5 points to see that they are much better than they appeared to be, and that would make me suspicious and cautious - I would reject my initial impression of them and start to judge them based on how they were playing from that point onwards. I've got to say, the opponents in your story seem fairly foolish if they wasted practically their whole match before realising the visitors were good. After all, couldn't they see from the score that they were being beaten? If you try to pretend you are slightly worse than you actually are, the subtlety could pay off in the opponents taking longer to figure out your true abilities, but such a big difference between their warp up and actual playing would be hard to miss.
*LOL* When I first heard the story, I didn't know what was more unbelieveable, that they tried such a thing or that the other team had fallen for it. The visiting team wasn't so obvious either. I was told between rallies they did stuff like having sudden mental lapses of how to keep score, which side to serve on, etc. While some of the more "talented" players even used awkward footwork or strokes for some shots. All pretty nasty stuff but I still have to laugh when I think about it. Oh I should also add that the reason they pulled this stunt was because they had heard through other teams that the host team was really arrogant and snobbish, but not nearly as good as they thought they were. So it was probably easier to fool them since they were over-confident to begin with. It's easy to be blind to your faults if you're always pointing out the faults of others. This sounds like a badminton cautionary tale haha.
Well that makes it more believable then. I didn't realise they were maintaining the pretense during matches. Still, it would take quite a bit more to stop me from notcing that ourteam was losing the match so severely By the way, I sometimes lose track of score or which side I should be on while playing a game. I get so involved in playing that suddenly the score matters less and I just focus on one point at a time. I don't have any excuse for forgetting which side I am meant to serve to.....
hahha, your exactly like me. i usually don noe where to serve so i have to ask my partner. And i always lose track of the score, usually even when the game is oredi over , i would still get back in position. kinda embarasing during tournament. i noe this is off-topic but i don wanna open another thread, does ice really helps? like for aching and other injuries.
greetings guys and gals! i am new here. nice to meet u all. well, deception has always been effective competitive sports strategy with high stakes. but as i only play social badminton, i only let my hair down when i play. ha ha...
