It's the start of another school year and tryouts have already begun in many of the Ontario universities in preparation for the upcoming badminton season. My alma mater the University of Waterloo Warriors won the OUA championships last year defeating the always dominant and defending champs University of Western Ontario Mustangs in a very close battle http://oua.ca/sports/badminton/ . I'm very excited about this upcoming season because many of the players i know in both Waterloo and Western's teams have their rosters relatively unchanged. Just wondering what other BC'ers think will happen this year and who they think will be the winner. My pick is a western and waterloo final again (York U makes it to the semi's) with my very biased choice of waterloo winning. Cheers
Didn't Loo lose Charles Pyne this year? A lot of people are leaving too I think. But Western STILL has a strong team I think... York is getting better. Where the hell did UT go (too many ppl don't turn out for the team I guess)... Oh well, I'm not in uni till next year (fingers crossed), so the news I get might not be as accurate as say a university student lol. If only Queens had a team, they have pretty good girls.
Go WAterloo! lolz, i just tried out for the team today. Awesome experience ( Im not a very experienced player) but i learned alot. Neways, just wanted to back up waterloo and their awesome team!
Uhm..no. AFAIK Charles will there for another year along with Ralf Horn. So their mens will dominate. Ladies not so much but overall the team should win pretty easily at the end. OUA badminton isn't as strong as it was even 3-4 years ago nowadays. No dominating up and coming players like the past.
I'm trying out for the York U team. It is our rebuilding year, if we get to the semi's that would be awesome. I think most of our top players have graduated.
Well we all know UT is going to be last place again. All the players are still as mediocre except for one of the girls. I hear there's 2 freshmans that are pretty good that are trying out. Coach is stupid and somewhat racist and plays favourites. Ask anyone...hahaha Oh well...that's life.
You'll never know. Anything can happen as long as you are determined to achieve. Just a note; whatever opinion you have against people, it's better to keep it to yourself.
Well some people just got to express their opinions. No names were mentioned right? Well, no. It won't happen, it has already been proven last year didn't it? Last place does taste sweet eh? History does repeat itself.
Do you guys bring your precious racquets to campus when you move there? Even if you have residence? I was wondering whether you guys drove home to pickup your racquets, borrowed from school, or pull them out of your hats or something lol.
answer to first question: Yes answer to second question: Yes Aside from my computer, my badminton racquet bag had to come with me whenever I moved back to Waterloo for school. If that isn't crazy enough, I'd bring my badminton stuff (not all) back to Vancouver in between semesters. Hehehe.
Thanks for the reply. That's pretty crazy with all the moving lol. Are there clubs at Waterloo during the year?
Well there's the University of Waterloo Badminton club.. The best club EVER!!! $20/ per semester gets you, 1 one free tourney (pointfore tourney), free entrance to the SOTF tournament held every semester, BK's Knight to Remember (chance to demo all of BK's latest racquets), the club's social events and coaching tips and Yellow Yonex Mavis 300 birds are supplied. 6 doubles courts and 2 singles courts at CIF...Very organized, 15 minute rotation system with tags for each member/guest. There's also KW Badminton club (only been there once). It's a feather only club. Very nice facility and a lot of the UW varsity players go there to play. Trance...You're a new student going to waterloo?? May be i'll see you at the SOTF tourney.
Ah, no I'm only in grade 11 right now A couple of years off uni. I was curious about how badminton was in universities in general. I'm planning to go to Western or UofT.
Go Waterloo! Yay, I'm back on the team this year, since I was away last year on co-op. Anyhow, this year we're still quite strong on the mens side, but we've lost a couple of our top players on the ladies side. So... it should be a good one!
This is kinda off topic, but umm ... is anyone going to the Varsity Blues Jr. tournament this upcoming weekend?
