BWF did not change the law. It has been like this for many years. It is what it is, unfortunately.

SYQ is in the first place with game difference 5-3.
VA and ASG have both same game difference (4-3 and 5-4, respectively).
The next tie breaker is the head-to-head match and VA beat ASG.

In the group match, winning is straight sets is better than winning in rubber sets. If ASG were to beat Kodai or SYQ in straight sets, ASG would go to semifinal.

2023 rules (like many years before):
16.2.3. If three or more Players / pairs have won the same number of matches, ranking will be established by the difference between total games won and total games lost, with greater difference ranked higher.
16.2.3.1. If this still leaves two Players / pairs equal, the winner of the match between them will be ranked higher.

Agree that the semifinal draw result is bad. The chance of the rematch is 50% and we get 3/5 repeat matches in semifinal.
This is part of BWF reform many years ago to make it fair.

The one gap that I see is the way the organizer arranged the matches order.
In FIFA World Cup, the last group two matches happen at the same time to avoid conflict of interest.

Yesterday, Group B match 1 (AA vs KV) was 7th match of Court 2. Group B match 2 (JC vs LSF) was 8th match of Court 1.
In a perfect world, both of them should happen at the same time.

In this case, LSF knew exactly how many points he must beat JC to qualify for semifinal because AA vs KV game ended before LSF match. Fortunately, JC, while lost, has accumulated 9 total point difference than LSF so JC goes to semifinal.

Yup as I have posted earlier.
KV surprisingly lost tamely to AA in game 2.
LSF needed KV to beat AA. Not sure if KV losing in 3 games would put LSF through.

It is best illustrated by XD group of WataHiga. All 3 only won 1 match but Wata/Higa has more games won and the points(wins minus losses) is the highest of the 3.

Shouldn't Jia's match be played before Shida's match?

really would like to hear the reason why keeping to this pair of shoes, knowing them being sponsored players would hv no issues getting replacements or rotating several pairs

Perhaps due to time that it takes the shoes to break in, just not in the right timing cycle.

And besides, it hasn't worn through yet.

Weak mentality, cant even serve properly. They would have easily win G1 by 4-5 points.
