Interesting that this is a super 500 but China and Indonesia are not sending their top players

Poor timing and a lottt of travelling.
    I was surprised too when I realised it's a 500 event.

I think the koreans are focusing on korea open but from the looks of it, so is everyone else. Its gonna be way tougher in korea although its also a 500 event

It is a bit too far for Asian players. For participating in these two 500 and 300 tournaments, they have to suffer performance loss at the next two 500 and 750 tournaments which are closer to home and perhaps more desirable. There is also the 500 level Australian Open at the tail end.

Fabian Roth keeps adjusting his socks and shoes at the start of every point. It's so annoying. Yet he managed to take the first game against Momota. Seems like anyone can take a game against Momota at this point.

He can do every trick to win Momota, but only that Momota.

It's refreshing to see Momota still has ambition. After the world records for most tournament wins ín a single season and most matches played in a single season, he's now well on his way to set the record for most first round losses in a single season.

Setting Olympic qualification aside, he should just focus on getting his form/fitness back. Even if that requires a considerable period away from badminton

Viktor, Marin will choose to withdraw or retire if they are not feeling well.

Until now, I wonder what Momota got when facing against to Tsuneyama in French Open 2021.

Im just gonna remind myself momota have came back from a huge drop in ranking before, and it doesn’t take very long, even with the current generation of players, SYQ dropped till 45 or worst last yr but is back in top 5 now. Momota should not give up on olympics just yet.

I’m starting to think his eye injury is the reason he’s not performing well anymore. Straight set loss against Fabian Roth? Who? Lol
It’s gotta be his eyes. His reaction time or something must be affected. I don’t understand how someone who dominated so convincingly can fall this bad in such a short period of time. It’s a shame!

When you see results like Weng hongyang defeated by Jan Louda, Kanta tsuyenama defeated by julien capriaggi, you know you are in Olympics qualification period

    Absolutely shocking.
WHY was leading 10-2 and then had 4 GPs in G1.
I think he himself was in shock and disbelief in G2 which was shockingly (again) lopsided.

Haven't even heard of Julien Capriaggi. Good wins for both of them. Its possible the Asian players didn't get enough time to settle in Canada's condition.

Good win for LS over his long time rival KV. In. Relatively weak field it was absolutely unfortunate for them to face eachother in R1.

Any idea what happened to Tanessha? Withdrew from both events.

Ohori Aya was forced to cancel her participation due to an omission in her application to enter Canada (entry papers). The NBA has apologised for this mistake on its website, but considering that the race to Paris has begun, Ohori will probably not be too happy about the slip-up.

Carraggi is number 16 in Europe now. So he has performed well this season on lower level tournaments

Calgary is at high altitude. Affects the shuttle speed. Perhaps some subtle physiological effects as well.
